I would like to ask for your comments or advice. I presently live in Central Pennsylvania and have the opportunity to re-locate to Henderson/Las Vegas Nevada or the Tampa Florida area. I lived in Florida for two years (Orlando) from 1994-1995. I have also been to the Las Vegas area many times.

I work in mangagement for a large corporation and make approximately 33,000 a year gross income.

I certainly enjoy hot weather. The Winter season in Pennsylvania gets too cold for me. I love the ocean, fishing and swimming. Florida has alot of water, the Las Vegas area has Lake Meade.

I am concerned about the cost of living....something most of us are all concerned about. Is it possible to buy or rent a home, condo, towhouse in Las Vegas, Summerlin, Henderson, Green Valley etc for $800/month?

I may be wrong but one thing that was appealing about the Las Vegas area was the chance for other employment opportunites. The Summerlin, Henderson and Las vegas area is constantly growing and wages seem to be higher than in Florida and other locations. Of course one needs to compare this with the cost of living.

I am single and I do believe that either the Tampa area of Florida or Las Vegas would provide me with an area that has things to do. I live about 50 miles north of Harrisburg Pennsylvania and to me it is very boring...To each his or her own I find little here in this part of Pennsylvania regarding theatre, sports, music etc. A vast majority of people here (especially single people) go to bars and drink. This is something I like to do (yes, beer, wine, scotch...I like it) but not as my only hobby.

I thank you for your time and appreciate your feedback and comments.

Have fun!

Eric

I vote for Tampa. The access to the water is much better there. LV is a horrible sports town, if you're into that.

Plus, its a misnomer that LV doesn't get cold. I was there in January, 2007, and it was below freezing for the whole week I was there. They said that the local's pools and pipes were freezing. Granted, Central PA can be colder, and the winter longer...but it is not out of place to see people in winter jackets in LV in January. If you're looking for drinks on the patio in the wintertime, while you hang out wearing shorts and a t-shirt, then Tampa is definitely the place.

I'll take Vegas/Henderson weather vs. Tampa/Florida weather any day. A lot less humidity, no hurricanes.
A friend of mine moved from Vegas to Boca Raton, and can't wait to get back here. I know its not Tampa, but he is hating it.

Eric...concerning housing...for $800 a month, don't expect much.

Concerning employment, in your field, it's also a misnomer...the employment picture in LV is not as rosey as you paint it to be...unless you're the corporation you currrently work for is a casino or hotel conglomerate. LV is a service-based industry town. Unless you're in the service industry, or construction (though not as strong as it once was...residential is down,) LV will not seem as employment-friendly as you may think it is.

CAUTION: If you decide LV is your place...do not go there without a job already lined up.

Employment is not what it was....and in spite of that the pool of qualified applicants has shrunk to a little puddle......

For our last job opening we received 27 applications and interview 3 people....mostly because they couldnt fill out an application correctly.....altho one had a conviction for credit card theft from her last job.....was amazed when we decided to pass on her.
