If the situation seems safe enough, I'll roll down my window part way and give them a bottle of water. I haven't seen someone ungrateful for that. Otherwise, they need to stop drinking/doing drugs/whatever is going on, and get their *&^% together.

We knew someone who would bring sandwiches to a group of homeless men in Long Beach. Some would eat them, some would throw them away, and one thought he was trying to poison him.

We've also had one throw a sandwich we gave him at our car, and yell at us when we drove away quickly.

Really, it's best not to interact with them at all. Most are nuts, and could potentially be dangerous.

I never carry much cash, since I do not have much to begin with. What I hate about these people all over the place wanting everyone's money, since when is it our problem to support everyone else? Some of us never make ends meet. It just really gets irritating when we can't go anywhere anymore without someone wanting money. Why can't they want a book or two? That I have extra of.

Ask them what they need the money for. If they say it's to get food then offer to buy them something instead. If they accept then you know they're being sincere. Otherwise it's a scam to get money for drugs or alcohol.

We undoubtedly have the most profitable panhandlers in the country. I think that part of this is due to the fact that LV naturally attracts a lot of predatory transients, and I think the other part comes as a result of so many suckers being in town.

As referenced above, they had a special about Las Vegas panhandlers on TV a couple of years ago where a guy on Fremont would sit in a wheelchair and have a "homeless vet" sign (he never served), and would make enough in three hours to cover his crack money for the day (roughly $200). Our panhandlers are great at playing numbers, being aggressive, dividing up territory amongst each other well, and preying on those that they perceive as weak. Some of them are at the same spots everyday, and just like one of them said in the documentary "Why would he get another job when he makes more than everyone giving to him." Plus the money that these guys pull in is all tax free.

If you ever get out and do work with our homeless population, you'll find that the vast majority of them don't panhandle at all for a variety of reasons. Our panhandlers are so brazen that they now don't hesitate to beg in $500 shoes, talk on a new android while working corners, and even tagging out and passing off their signs to one another.

The least they can do is get a little creative.

I have NEVER seen a beggar ply an intersection without someone donating SOMETHING. I never know what the donation is. But someone always hands the beggar something when I'm in line at a light.

Assume 30 light changes per hour, someone donating something at each stoplight. If the average is a buck, these beggars are making more than I do per hour.

Stop feeding their addiction.

^^^^^ +1

One particularly bad tip day a bum outside the airport asked for a buck....I told him he probably has made more than me. He said he'd just been out for a little bit and made $40 already. I told him to give me a buck...he laughed and turned around.

Anyone see the South Park episode about the homeless begging for change epidemic? It was more like zombies looking for brains.

OH now I am getting scared about moving to Vegas I am a sucker, always had a hard time saying "NO" to anyone even strangers....Living in a small town here in Iowa never have to deal with that...or scorpion...but I still want to move away from the long coldddd, snowy winters...Maybe I can take a course before I move there to just say "NO"...I also am not rich by any means...it saddens me to think that these people make more money than the average hard working Joe...OH well at least we have our Pride...Hope this doesn't play on my mind about decision to move there....
