Shortly after I posted here I was listening to Jim Gaffigan. He was talking about being from Indiana and get said "yes we had electricity when I was growing up" so it's everywhere

I was once asked if we had penguins and polar bears in MN.

I told them yes, I did not tell them only at the ZOO.

In Jamaica, I was asked if we live in igloos but at least that I can understand and he was truly curious, and the question came right after I told him <" our winters are colder than your walk in freezer>"

I was reading another forum and someone was saying they never wanted to visit Phoenix because it's nothing but sand. Actually, no, there's no sand here. Lots of dirt, but no sand

But I do know that people in Las Vegas DO live on the strip in the hotels, right?

Phoenix has some of the best soil in the country, you can grow anything in that soil. But the soil is so thick that you need to add 1/3rds peat to 2/3rds soil. Ideal for adobe buildings, and when I lived in Phoenix, 2 of my neighbor's houses were adobe.

I was blessed, that with the house I bought a block from Encanto Park, no one had planted anything in the backyard so I was free to landscape this virgin soil anyhow I wished. Coming from MN where we were restricted to Zone 3 plants, I was like a kid in a candy store when I went to a Nursery in Phoenix, learning I could even plant Zone 9 plants. So first things first: A Jacaranda tree! And, bougainvilla in 2 different colors!

I got my mom to come out here a couple months ago and she was surprised there weren't tumbleweeds blowing around everywhere.

My favorite comment when we first moved here from a friend back home was," Can you see the mountains from where you live?"

Little know fact. Tumbleweeds are not native to the Americas.
