Were they any street performers out there? I can imagine what it was like on a cold and windy day. I used to do it six days a week, sometimes seven. My only guaranted days off were my birthday (6/22), Halloween, and if it was raining. This picture's from Christian Lutz's book, Insert Coins.

My late grandmother loved humming birds. I remember as a kid when they would drink off of the hose water when she was tending the garden.

I'm not sure what they give me, but I get a breathing treatment every six hours and wear a bipap at night.[CENTER]

We were on the strip Sunday when the winds were really gusting and there was really NO street performers or homeless to be seen other than a few gals dressed as showgirls wearing COATS!
It didn't stop the porn slappers, though.

I use a CPAP and I was really reluctant to use it when the docs told me I should. Now I use it even when I nap. Such a relief to not wake up struggling to breathe!

Me too. A bipap. The new ones are pretty close to silent. I don't think I could sleep anymore without one. Quite habit forming. I am having mask trouble at the moment. They have discontinued the one I like and the new one is a nuisance. But the process itself is quite easy and I find it comfortable. .

It's not easy, but you'd be really surprised what you can do when you're tired.

Even though I'm medicated, it does take me a while to fall asleep. I do have the ocassional night where I can't sleep at all.

Mine isn't silent, and it's a lot of fun when I have to cough.

You have one of those nasal ones? Lucky you. I have a mask style one, and the strap encases my head. Lots of fun, considering that I have long hair.
I just out something fun. A friend of mine here told me that I need to have a chaparon with me when I go out. My first time off property will be limited to only three hours, but that doesn't give that much time, including the bus ride. The RTC does have a special bus that'll take me where I need to go, but I like that I need a chaparone. I'm an adult, not a little kid. I know they're concerned about my welfare, but I know that I can help my self. I want to go see the Star Wars movie, but I don't really have anyone who can go with me. The 3D version of of the movie (2D is $11.xx) is $14.xx. I want to see it at the theater on the strip, so that I can say hi to my fellow street performers. Next month, I want to go to Monta to try their ranmen and gyoza.
Life's a b**ch.

I had to put down my ferret this morning. Over the 24 years, it's the 6th ferret to die. Some died at home, unexpectedly, 2 I had to have euthanized. My others barely made it to 6 years, and this one was 3 months away from being 6, so I was sort of expecting this to happen. What's interesting about ferrets, they can be active, lively, right up until the end, then, one day, they keel over, just like that!
I knew something was off-kilter on our walk last night, as he'd walk a little, then go flat to the sidewalk. So I carried him home and after that he had a hard time walking. So off to DI Animal Hospital, with my roommate Roberto accompanying us.
It was after the Dr. told me that even with surgery, there were no guarantees he'd recover, so that smoothed the decision.
I have 5 other ferrets buried in my townhouse courtyard, so Roberto dug the hole, and dug into the grave of one of my other ferrets, so we buried him in the same site, and I stuck 2 peeled bananas into his "casket", as he loved his bananas.
He will be missed by some of the security guards/doormen on the Strip, as the last time we were at Bellagio, the staff off the lobby didn't expect to see us again.
He was an over-loved ferret, couldn't have had a better life, IMO.
So, life isn't life, for me, unless I have a ferret around my house, so he'll be replaced very soon. Perhaps I'll buy 2 next time.
Oddly, perhaps his way of bereaving, Roberto didn't eat any food today, and he refuses to take my ferret's food away for 3 days. What's up with that????

You guys are all discussing my line of work. I'm a Sleep Tech - working in eastern Washington state now. The masks are just getting better and better all of the time. I will try 2-3-4 masks on a patient in what we call at this Wenatchee Sleep Lab "mask training." It's necessary in case the patient's study gets "split" to CPAP at the 4-hour mark. Guys and gals - obstructive sleep apnea is a killer. You ever hear a relative say "Awful about Uncle Fred. He died in his sleep." Yes, you guessed it - he may have very well died in his sleep from sleep apnea. You can get high blood pressure, worsen existing high blood pressure, get diabetes, have a stroke, heart attack and, if that list is not scary enough - you can just get non-restorative sleep. If you don't feel refreshed when you wake up you might have OSA. So don't put it off - go get some help from your doctor and get a sleep study if you need it. You'll actually get restorative sleep and have energy to do things during the day.
aqualung - best to follow the rules of the care center you're in. I know it sucks, though. Sorry.
tijlover - man, I'm sorry about your ferret. We're dog and cat lovers and we know what it's like to grow attached to an animal and to love an animal. After our first cat Tabitha died, my wife, son and I balled our eyes out. She was an absolute doll - she carried herself with dignity through cancer but it killed her. She died one day short of 16 years old. After our first Pomeranian died, I came home from school in the small Missouri town I was training in to become a respiratory therapist. We took Abbey to a Missouri Wildlife Conservation area southwest of St. Louis. I dug a hole and put her wrapped body down in to it and...just broke down into a sobbing mess of tears and howls. I loved that dog with all my heart and soul. That literally hurt my body, brain and soul to lose her. I'll never forget her or Tabitha.
Fast forward to December of 2009. Our 2nd Pomeranian, Rocky, was only a 6-pound Pom. He was my wife's close companion. She called me at work - I worked in a small critical access hospital in SE Arizona as a respiratory therapist. She said that Rocky wasn't breathing right and that she didn't think he was going to make it. I told my Boss and the other RT covered my shift for me as I would need to go home.
My wife told Rocky "Daddy's coming home - hold on, Rocky!" I opened the front door to our house and walked in. She handed me Rocky and his little head just smacked into my belly hard. I knew he was gone. He tried to wait and he made it - a testimony to our animals will to live. He died in my arms. He, like our first Pom, died of congestive heart failure. My wife and I were broke to pieces. He was like a little squirrel - so full of life and energy. And he slept right between us - he had to be touching at least one of us at all times. I buried him in our backard...on rocky soil. It was really tough to open up a hole back there. I put several rocks over his gravesite to remember him by. I'm balling my eyes out now as I type this post out.
I'm so sorry tijlover - but, you know you'll be doing the right thing by getting another one. Or two.
Animals are yet one more testimony to the Creator's love for the human beings he created.
Thank you, my Good Friend!
