Otherwise, medicinally, they are already bought out by pharmaceutical reps and trained to just prescribe, prescribe, prescribe. Once again the mighty $ prevails.
I really wonder why pharmaceutical companies are advertising on TV. Are they trying to tell us we have an illness so we will but their products? We can't prescribe them to ourselves. Why not save the advertising and lower the prices?

Walking my dog, swimming, talking to friends etc will do more than anti depressants.
Sick people go to doctors, healthy people don't. As for anti-depressants, a good 30 minute walk a day in the sunshine will do more for someone than a stupid drug with side effects. Escape reality with some good books.
Yep, doctors just want to prescribe their drugs. They no longer give out healthy lifestyle information. I think they want every man, woman and child on drugs.

The purpose of the constant pharmaceutical ads on TV is to make YOU think that you have that illness, plus all the other made up illnesses they come up with. Then you will rush to your doctor as the sheeple you are supposed to be and get your doctor to prescribe you more drugs to add to your pile you already take if you are a typical person these days.

PinkString is right. Most people do not realize that the drug companies have even made a disorder called "healthy eating disorder" that needs to be treated with drugs. Who do they think they are kidding???

When it comes to Erectile Dysfunction...someone should definitely know (as opposed to think) they are experiencing it. If you have a strong desire to get into matching side-by-side clawfoot bathtubs with the member of the opposite sex, in a setting such as the middle of a forest, or by the beach in front a beautiful sunset...you DEFINITELY need Cialis...for when the moment is right!

When we make a conscious decision to stop self-indoctrinating ourselves with the highly charged messages we want to hear, then perhaps we can return to civil dialog and cure the political jaundice. The electorate is brainwashed into believing that if you are a centrist, who thinks for themself, you're more likely to be run over.

Ask 10 news hounds who protray themselves as informed, politically-aware people who their state representatives are. You shouldn't be surprised at their answers.

I think that a great deal of people are addicted to the discourse much like we root for the home team. I think that people who don't participate in the process, because of their opposition to discourse, for whatever reason, have been effectively disenfranchised through apathy and weapons of mass distraction.

We are pretty easy to manipulate that way and its not going to stop anytime soon.
It's interesting that you make the sports analogy. Politics and civics are complicated issues that require being informed, involved, and patient to make good decisions. You can't do that with a sound bite mentality. Sadly, many of us have been trained to think on a very simplistic, emotional level about complicated ideas and that results in, as you also say, an easily controlled populace. Big Brother is here!!
