NYC is like a mentally retarded version of London squished up into a smaller space.

The best time to visit NYC is during fall. That's the most pleasant (by this I mean remotely habitable by human standards) time of year. The place is so humid in summer and so bitingly cold in winter that it can get depressing. Spring is okay but too rainy at times.

You can argue many things in terms of NYC, it has mile after mile of skyscrapers, is far more densely populated than London and is far more built up than many areas in London. However one thing you can't argue is that NYC is somehow greener than London with it's beautiful parks and open spaces, tree lined streets, it's magnificent green squares, quaint pubs and mile after mile of beautiful historic Georgian Townhouses. The percentage of public green space (parks and gardens) in London stands at 38.4% of all land in London compared to 14% in NYC. Whilst London has over 3,000 Parks and many hundreds of beautiful green town squares.

Whilst many parts of London have a character, history and charm than NYC with it's urban grit just cam not replicate. Indeed I find it hard to even compare NYC to London in these terms.

I don't think it's absurd. I don't think your random googling of websites really indicates anything, one way or the other.

On most objective metrics, NYC is the "greater" city, and possibly the greatest on earth. If we're talking subjective metrics, there's no answer, because it's obviously entirely subjective.

Unless you fall into the trap of comparing gross figures according metro area statistics (comparing the gross output of 22 million population vs 14 million), which is fallacious, no, New York is not clearly ahead on most objective statistics.

It lags London in financial services (London is now a juggernaut in the foreign exchange and insurance markets, which sees massive volumes daily, has the edge in OTC derivatives and matches Chicago on commodities futures). London also has a notable lead in foreign direct investment, international dining, the tech industry and office and real estate (AFIRE, Jan 2014). Where New York still retains an undisputed edge is the fashion industry and small businesses, such as independent retailers.

In other areas, comparisons vary by stratum: New York has the edge in the contemporary and post-war art auction market, London leads in terms of classical, Old Master art auctions. Retail volume between the two is very comparable. New York has more billionaires, and HNWIs, London has more multimillionaires, according to the latest Wealth Report by Knight Frank.
