Newfield just made the NYS needs improvement list.

I would hold out for 3V(S Setauket:Centereach) Sachem,Comsewogue or even Longwood if I were looking Mid Shore.

yes it was represented- more strongly than most know- as a few of them went to Centereach High School, and call Centereach there hometown, still home to their parents etc. its sad that the area has such a bar drug problem but so does many affluent surrounding areas. In fact off of Betty Anne Dr(2 blocks west of wireless)-the area you say to hold out for, I know of one heavily active young dealer who operates here. Its tough you cant avoid it anywhere really so the best is to raise your kids with knowledge of the dangers as well as arm yourself with knowledge of what to look out for.

Trust me as a kid in 3V we had major drug issues then too.

Try here - HistoricMapWorks.com

Lake Ronkonkoma (the lake, at least....and most of Ronkonkoma) is "Plate 031"....start from there and try to make sense of the others. I only looked quick but I didn't see "Centereach" or "Lake Grove" even listed as names. Both were almost completely rural in 1917....I'm sure they're on there but they might be a part of several different maps. There are several different years for Suffolk, so if that's no good just try another one!

If you become a paying subscriber they have a feature where you can use modern maps as an overlay for some of these, which is cool as hell. I should really drop some dough on this...

It's a little harder to navigate, but the Long Island Memories page has all these same maps minus the watermarks and come-ons. They're working towards putting all of the photos, historical documents and research materials from local libraries, historical societies, etc. online. Already have TONS of it available.

I can get stuck wasting half a day on either website very easily!!

Default I know the place

Schools are average. You have more punk kids there then in other towns near by. There are good parts of the town and bad. Closer to the mall, I would say good. Further down, I would say bad. People in that town like to think they are tuff, but there aren't. Be positive and it will get you far, but stay away from anyone that does drugs.
