A lot of these Buffets are owned by chinese like the Global Buffet.
They will do anything for money. Once this pandemic over, they will be back in no time. They likely getting funding from China, or Taiwan. They will be back.
All you can eat buffets basically are the challenge of, how much of the lowest quality food can you shove down your gullet in a single sitting.
Basically true, but not true of the buffets in many Casino's in Las Vegas Nevada as well as Reno Nevada. They have top chefs. They aren't cheap either.
I haven't been to many resort cities in my life, but I have to wonder if most of them don't have several high-quality buffets. You let out a cruise ship full of passengers to descend on the coastal resort town, and I have to believe all those retirees are going to want the selection of a buffet.
But I don't speak from knowledge or experience. I am just thinking out loud.
Around town, yes it is all about cutting costs. Bang for the buck. Slop basically. Most, but not all. Which we don't have to worry about anymore since they are disappearing. I wonder how much of them disappearing has to do with younger people being more health conscious, or not.
our local all you can eat buffet cost us 100 bucks last time went ... it was 39.99 a person plus tax and drinks ...they converted to a build your own , bento box menu for now . all different prices .

News flash, racist freak: They are mostly owned by Korean-Americans who HIRE Chinese and they get their money from good old fat American gluttons who have to "eat all they can for $22pp". Charging $20 for the same chix and broccoli they charge $6 bucks for next door seems as American as apple pie. And the "exceptional" rubes lap it up. Yummmmm.
Sure you can get it for $6 next door. But if you want chicken with broccoli, some shrimp dish, some sweet and sour pork, a dessert, etc. you will be paying more than $22 next door.
I used to go with my father to a Chinese buffet (which was more like $30 than $22) and I never felt ripped off because there was a lot to choose from.
