Then don't eat one on a daily basis. I only indulge maybe once every 3 months.
If you think New Yorkers are obese, you should see what the people are like down south where they don't even have decent bagels.
There are lots of mediocre places here, but I've never had a good bagel in another state in any region of the US, but I haven't visited all of the states, yet.
I lived in Minnesota/Illinois for 6 years. They make fat new yorkers look petite.
I'm 29, my husband is 31. We have a 2 year old daughter. I was born in Brooklyn, then moved to LI when I was 11. Went to college in Niagara Falls. After college, I came straight back to LI. Granted I haven't lived all over the place so I don't know what other areas are like apart from NYC, LI, Buffalo/Niagara Falls. LI has a lot of convenience. Buffalo/Niagara Falls was dead. Couldn't do anything after 6pm. Unless you're a bar person, which I'm not. My husband and I want to buy a house within the next year so we can expand our family. We're looking around right now and for the price you spend on a tiny 2 bedroom 1 bath house on LI, you can get a mini mansion in Buffalo. We're definitely considering moving off LI but my immediate family is still here. They're extremely close to my 2 year old. They're the ones babysitting her while I work full time. So, they're the biggest reason why we're not moving off the island. Instead, we're looking at houses more towards Riverhead where we can say we're still on LI but it's not as expensive as say Commack or Great Neck.
If we move, we don't know where to or even if we'd make a comparable salary to what we earn now. We don't make big bucks but we also don't want to live with a big pay cut. I get COL is cheaper other places.
Hubby is from Canada and all his family is from Canada.

Not to sound rude. Your out of touch with the housing market if you’re comparing great neck and commack.

Well, if you're comparing Riverhead, Commack and Great Neck I'd say Riverhead is the one that sticks out the most.
The problem with buying there to say you're "still on LI" is that if you later need to work in NYC you're pretty screwed. If you want to sell you're not in a strong market like Western Suffolk and Nassau.
I'd think there was more to do in Buffalo than in Riverhead?
Housing prices are thru the roof on the east end. Full price offers and bidding wars. Many going to contract within 2 weeks. It's absolutely bananas right now.
