i am in DTLA at all hours. never experienced any bad incidents.

these past couple of years i have moved further from the center and spent more time in the arts district. as a regular greyhound user it is really exciting to see all the changes in the area and know that i can now catch the MTA bus without looking over my shoulder every 5 mins. yes, even the area around the greyhound station is looking up! imagine that.

most people who are afraid of DTLA at night, or make generalizations about mexicans in DTLA, have probably spent very few minutes in the area.

spring street and broadway at night are completely diverse.

7th st by bottegas is turning into restaurant row.
spring street is becoming a bar hopping destination.
lots to do at all hours. no worries here.

turn turn turn.

WOW!

THANK YOU for these beautiful photographs!

Absolutely beautiful!

I remember going to GRAND CENTRAL MARKET when I was a lil girl. We would buy fresh veggies & fruits, have lunch, and always take home a carton of fresh peanut butter!

You have given me a wonderful trip back to the past.

All of these photos capture LOS ANGELES!

The revitalization of Broadway marches on with the recent announcement that Unami "Delicatessen" will open a 7,000 sq. ft. space next to the Orpheum theatre. The Blackstone building across the street was recently opened as lofts with ground floor retail coming to that space soon.

Lease Signed for Umami to Open on Broadway :: blogdowntown

And of course, Cliftons on Broadway near 7th was recently bought by the owner/creator of the Edison Bar. The new owner will retain Clifton's but will also add a bar/lounge to currently empty mezzanine space above the existing Clifton's.

Also, the Broadway-Spring Arcade building opened as residential lofts in the summer of 2010. Finally, the Broadway-Exchange Building (now called the Haas building) is opening a Vodka bar at 7th / Broadway in March 2011. Granted the bar's entrance is from the 7th Street side.

Spring Street is essentially a revitalized/changed street as compared to 5 or 10 years ago. Broadway is changing right before our eyes....we'll see if the momentum keeps rolling on.

And they're going to reactivate the bakery floor.

If you're looking for something fun to do this weekend (probably no action on the police scanner, tho, if that's your speed - ha!) in DTLA, there's a Patsy Cline tribute show at Disney Hall with John Doe, Shirley Manson, The Living Sisters (a handful of awesome LA songtresses), Zooey Deschanel and more. I'll be there (working, admittedly, but excited!). More info: @ LA Phil site - http://www.laphil.com/tickets/performance-detail.cfm?id=4437.

Downtown isn't exactly a desirable destination. But who knows what the future has in store.
