The process for "taking custody" of someone who is mentally ill is already state law and it is not being changed FFS. It's right here read it for yourself: https://law.justia.com/codes/califor...5150-5157.html

A Good Samaritan’s impressive flying kick is being credited with taking out a homeless man who was allegedly attacking another person in Los Angeles.

Speaking of “unprovoked attacks” ... um:

California led the nation in violent crimes against the homeless by “housed” assailants last year, with San Diego contributing one of 20 known crimes statewide, according to a report released this week by the National Coalition for the Homeless.

I posted on this before. And the number one reason cited as causative for unprovoked violence against homeless is: fearmongering ... exactly what most posters to this thread are perpetuating ... and then exclaiming how scary the homeless are ...

There’s a difference between deliberately fake news and bad reporting. In this case, it’s bad reporting, yes.

In 2017 .. 6,400 homeless arrested by LAPD for felonies out of a population of about 30,000 (,in city of LA)

14,500 misdemeanors so about half the population arrested!

When one reads between the headlines they see the reality . Huge criminal element among the homeless .

Of course we know not all criminals are actually caught so the crime committed is even higher.
Homeless are committing way more than their share of crime.

About 6,400 homeless people were arrested on felony charges, including robbery, grand theft auto, aggravated assault and burglary, the report said. A Times analysis this year found that homeless arrests had climbed 31% in recent years,

The report said LAPD officers made 14,500 misdemeanor arrests of homeless people in 2017, a 10% jump from the year before.

1. LASO uses 'homeless' as a designator for anyone who refuses to give an address. So, counted in that number are the arrests of transients who may stay in hotels or sofa surf and people who refuse to give their address to law enforcement because they don't want the cops to get a search warrant for their home.

2. Many people, especially drug addicts alcoholics and the mentally ill are arrested more than once in a month, let alone once a year, so there is no rationale for your magical math that claims half of the homeless have been arrested.

Um, no jm. 14,500 arrests does not mean “about half the [homeless] population arrested. It means there were 14,500 arrests made for misdemeanor violations among a population of about 30,000 homeless. Police could have arrested one person 14,500 times - or - 14,500 different people once each. It doesn’t say. This is an example of using analytical abilities carefully - or not.

As to the 14,500 violations though: is it hard to imagine that, given sufficient resources to arrest/cite misdemeanor violations among a huge population of 30,000 people with nowhere to go, stand, sleep, relieve themselves, acquire food, wash themselves/ clothes ... police couldn’t write citations by the thousands every day?

That’s the whole issue here, jm ... how to correct the conditions, within a budget, within constitutionally set laws.

All you do is throw one ugly anecdotal story after another out onto the internet to demonze what we already know is a problem. People like you are making the situation worse.

In all fairness one does not even have to read between the lines to see the reality. The homeless way of living is criminal in and of itself. Every aspect of most of their existence hosts a criminal element against society.

Just listen to this serial homeless loser admitting that he steals because he's homeless...he says it as if it's his right to steal bikes.

I-Team uncovers where stolen bikes in San Francisco go

You don't have to read between the lines here to see what's going on. It's turly amazing that the folks in a SF neighborhood are in shock that they have clean sidewalls. To them it's seems "crazy" and "unreal".

Poop. Needles. Rats. Homeless camp pushes SF neighborhood to the edge

No one in a civilized society should have to be subjected to these vile behaviors.

Yeah that’s the problem . This mentality that nothing is individual’s fault but it’s society’s problem is a hallmark of the left .

“We need to help the homeless “ We ? If you listen to any former homeless person it’s always been their own willpower that’s got them out of the situation.

There are tons of social workers that offer the homeless services and they refuse but that doesn’t mean we should just allow them to live on and destroy the streets .
You notice it’s always the liberal run cities that have major problems with the homeless . L.A , SF , Seattle , Portland etc .

I feel bad for the severely mentally ill or disabled ones that are law abiding but there are a massive number that are in their place due to their own decisions . This is something that is forbidden to talk about though .

Protestors outside Garcetti’s house ! Demanding an end to homelessness .. and ICE

Apparently his wife came out .. wonder if she handed them gift baskets .

Protesters gather outside L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti's Windsor Square residence early Saturday, calling on him to end homelessness and support disbandment of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency

It’s unclear if the mayor was home during the 7 a.m. protest. His wife, Amy Wakeland, briefly emerged from the residence shortly after demonstrators left. A Garcetti spokesman didn’t immediately provide a comment.

Protesters demonstrate outside L.A. mayor's house, call for end to homelessness and abolishment of ICE
