You don’t need to go Walking Dead that’s too obvious. Carry pepper spray and a switch blade. We all have the right to defend ourselves.

High voltage zappers work too but you basically have to touch the violent bum. I do like the Lucille image.

I already do, but there are limits to those things and they don't provide much of a visible deterrent. Even when I palm my pepper spray, people think it's a small flashlight.

Talk about biased. Fairly typical that he blames much of the homeless problem on Jerry Brown, Dianne Feinstein and Nancy Pelosi.

The National Review was founded by William F. Buckley, one of the most conservative authors of the 20th century. And Victor David Hanson is an ultra-right conservative, who voted for George W. Bush in both elections. He defended the Iraq War and was a huge supporter of then Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

You constantly post false info. First of all, Hanson is NOT a professor at Stanford. He is affiliated with the university's conservative Hoover Institution but not a professor. For most of his career he taught at Cal State Fresno and more recently was a visiting professor at Pepperdine.

But his article is absolute TRASH.

Some of Hanson's garbage:
"One out of three Californians who enters a hospital for any cause is now found to be suffering from either diabetes or pre-diabetes an epidemic that hits the Hispanic community especially hard."

The rates of diabetes are far highest in deep red states: Oklahoma, Kentucky, West Virginia, Arkansas, South Carolina, Alabama, etc. California is somewhere in the middle.

https://www.stateofobesity.org/diabetes/

Another "good one" from Hanson:
"The state has the highest homeless population in the nation (135,000)."

Uh, yeah, because we are the largest state by population by far. Our homeless population per capita places us sixth on the list. Not arguing we don't have a problem with homelessness. We do. But the context of this guy's misinformation campaign in mind boggling.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/...e-us-by-state/

Of course Hanson offers up the favorite conservative canard about Typhus and medieval diseases.

But the fact is that typhus is still around in places that have warm climates. It has been INCREASING in red Texas as well.

https://www.keranews.org/post/typhus...roughout-texas

One thing that does characterize third world countries is high infant mortality rates. Well, the states with the highest infant mortality rates are....Red States. California is a bit below average for the US on this measure.

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/s..._mortality.htm

What other garbage you got to serve up today Pilgrim?

I didn't read the articles, but astral, you didn't debunk anything. You just stated different information as "proof" of the authors misinformation.

"CA has the highest homeless population"

"Yeah but per capita we are number six. See, other states are worst! You liar!"

Lol

Um. Astral pointed out several examples of misrepresentation and falsehood. And linked to support: diabetes, typhus, infant mortality. All wrongly cited and applied.

Also clarified that using a total figure for homeless population is misapplied since the metric for the author’s point should be “per capita”.

Crap article. Homelessness is a huge problem in LA / California. A scourge. And misrepresentations such as Hanson’s piece just make problem-solving harder, swimming upstream through fear mongered public opinion.

The only thing wrong there is he didn’t list crapcetti, Han, Bonnin, and all politicians in San Fran.

Just because he’s conservative doesn’t mean he’s wrong. Drive over to conservative Newport Beach and see how a city is supposed to be run.

Correct. Lots of excellent conservative thinkers in the country. Hanson just isn’t one of them ... as pointed out.
