I agree. I'm sure there is gang activity in just about every city but I would guess most if not all of it is confined to bad neighborhoods like the projects and all. I have been to plenty of big cities and I have never seen a gang in person. I have seen graffitti in some places but haven't seen an acutal gang. I'd say as long as you use common sense and stay out of bad areas you should never have any problem with gangs.

Most of the gangs here are Crips. There was a Blood gang over by Hill but they lost their leader to a drive by. I don't know if they are still in the biz. They were mostly slangin rock whereas the Crip pimping Ho's and slangin herb.

As for the gangs the other poster that added a comment on this is truly correct. Anything west of 7th street road from River Road which is basically run parallel with the Ohio River all the way down to Berry Blvd, which is about 13 or so miles. But anywhere in Louisville you are going to run into certain areas in Louisville that are bad.
For example I live in Pleasure Ridge Park, KY which is still considered Louisville, it is South of the downtown area of Louisville. But just to give you a example on the first impression my girlfriend received upon coming to my area to get to where I live, which is off of the I-264/Watterson Expressway and take it south on the Dixie Highway exit, and upon leaving the expressway you enter a area that has adult hotel, but they stop after you get out of that little city inside of Louisville called Shively, but as soon as you get out of that city less than 1 mile you get into more of a civil area, business owners, restaurants and little small whole in the wall restaurants. But enough rambling aslong as you stay away from the west side of Louisville you will be fine. I am from Louisville and if you have any question about a good place to live or a question about certain area, feel free to ask me.

My wife and I were looking at a house in Shively. Any gang problems there?

Shively is going downhill in a hurry... I'd defiantly look elsewhere

Yes Shively is slowly going downhill I agree, I grew up in Shively from the 1980 to 1994 then moved out to Pleasure Ridge Park which is next to Shively but I don't think this area is as bad as Shively. So yes I would consider elsewhere, even the border of Shively and PRP is Rockford Lane which is where I grew up is the dividing line between the two and even in PRP close to the Shively line is getting bad.

Louisville starts to go down hill after Bardstown road when driving along the 264. I'd say the best way to look for housing is to head towards the river EAST of downtown starting from Bardstown Road. Sadly, I'd have to recommend avoiding all of the Southern Parkway-Dixie Hgwy segments of town; and I love Southern Parkway and Irquois Park.

Well I would have to disagree and take offense with you on the Dixie Highway segments of town, I live off Dixie Highway right off of Greenwood Road and the only thing that has happened to me here is someone got a BB gun for Christmas and mine as well as several other peoples back window got shot out, nothing stolen out of it, window broken. But as for gangs, they can be anywhere, it goes downhill around the Southern Parkway/Taylor Blvd exit, but if you go south on Dixie not north and once you get out of the Shively area going south on Dixie you are fine.
