[quote=teachertype;16112312]You mean like Rand Paul who says he would not have signed the 1964 Civil Rights Act and who believes businesses should be allowed to discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion and national origin? I'm so glad the liberal and lesbian Rachel Maddow ended his political viability.[/QUOTE

Being a teacher, and left leaning, I'm surprised you brought this up-
yet have you researched how the democrats voted to pass this bill??
before you single out anyone- read below ALL southern democrats senators voted against the civil rights act and 92 of 103 southern democrat representatives voted against it

take a look
"
The Congressional Quarterly of June 26, 1964 recorded that in the
Senate, only 69 percent of Democrats (46 for, 21 against) voted for
the Civil Rights Act as compared to 82 percent of Republicans (27 for,
6 against). All southern Democratic senators voted against the act.
[...] In the House of Representatives, 61 percent of Democrats (152
for, 96 against) voted for the Civil Rights Act; 92 of the 103
Southern Democrats voted against it.
Among Republicans, 80 percent
(138 for, 34 against) voted for it."

And perhaps many of us liberals just keep quiet where our voice would only raise hackles, and make our opinions known at the ballot box and in the way we live our lives.

Perhaps, but there are many liberals that have no fear in letting you know how they feel. My liberal teacher co-workers have berated me openly and called me names that would be banned and shunned by most people. I have learned to keep my conservative ways to myself....too bad. The party that claims acceptance can really be the most devisive at times.

On the Maine forum.....I think twice or thrice before posting my opinions.....and even then I am often ridiculed and receive disrespectful comments....I usually keep my opinions to myself or express them in the most watered down version. I know this is a hostile enviornment....and usually avoid the political....my defenses must be down tonight.

Let's try for a civil discussion on the current political atmosphere in Maine and leave discussions of 1964 for the History forum.

I like the tea party and what it's doing. People are really into the original tea party's spirit.

It works both ways. But the party is not the individual voters, they are not to be confused in either instance.
