Mod Note:

Just to clarify the acceptable scope of this thread, let's review the OP:

So my question for all you Maine-iacs (or whatever you call yourselves) is: what is the general outlook of the populace on politics, religion, ethnicity, etc. And if it can be compartmentalized by region, that would be great. I'm currently thinking no further north than Augusta and not on the coast. Thanks.

Please stick to strictly addressing the information requested -- the state forum board is not an appropriate venue for discussion/debate on merits (or lack thereof) of various political parties and movements.

Save those discussions for the Politics forum.

Thanks for everyone's cooperation.

Though I'm pretty ignorant of Maine being an Illinoisan, I've always admired what I've heard/researched/learned about your state. As a moderate Republican who LOVED Olympia Snowe, I hope that the GOP shifts back toward the center of the political spectrum, where it never should have left. I also hope that by doing so, it can regain its traditional bases of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont back someday.

most mainers get along well, until politics is mentioned, then its like throwing gas on a campfire...

your post may have good intentions, and most of us welcome different points of view, but this one topic usually closes a thread
