We're in Jersey City NJ and can't wait to get out. I'm walking from a 6 figure job because life is short and isn't fair. Jersey crime, taxes, insurance, utility bills are through the roof.

Not a clue as to what I'll do once I get there, but I don't care. We want to live life on our terms, and you only get one shot at it.

Some photos in my profile area.
I understand 100% as I am a Jersian as well. $$$$$$$$ - costs SO much to live here, especially with a big family like ours.

Oops! I meant to quote the post directly above mine here:

The poster seemed very decisive I just thought it was a little refreshing.

As far as finding ones dream in Maine, I have a few examples...my niece from CA moved to ME 9 years ago and found her dream. But it was a long road for her. My nephew doesn't live there now and found his dream in Kansas City. Plus, my sister and brother form CA moved back there 7 and 8 years ago too and definitely found their dream. They miss CA and their friends and acquaintances but with their moves back to Maine, they have property and space galore, history with neighbors and the town and more 'out the front door' nature than they can shake a stick at.

The rest of my extended family have always lived in Maine and found their dreams many years ago and can expect most of their children to leave and return to Maine many times just like my own family. When I get to visit back there and when sitting and catching up with any lifelong Mainer relative, they always get to "the question" eventually. "When are you going to move back here and how in gods name can you live out there?"

Has anyone moved to Maine to follow your dreams?

Not yet, but we're working on it.

I looking to move to Maine to follow my dreams. I've researched many states and I always end up back in Maine. I'm getting ready to take my first trip out, to see if its all that I dream it is.

Default To Maine from Massachusetts :)

My husband and I moved up to rural Maine from Massachusetts a few years ago. As a kid I would come up for family reunions and summer camp, so I had always had a place for it in my heart. When I met my husband we took a couple trips up to Maine, and thought it would be a fun place to live, so after a year or so of working our butts off and saving as much as possible, we were able to do it!

Found a beautiful home to rent on about 2 acres of land, surrounded by trees and a farm across the way. All large chain stores (grocery, Walmart, etc) are 30+ minutes away. My husband bought a Deere for the lawn, and a snow blower for the winter. We'd never seen that much snow . . . there was a 4' tall pathway going from the porch, to the driveway, to the garage. haha We started playing with veggies and flower gardens, every year adding one or two more beds And have discovered some really nice local cafes, shops, and farms. Its fun living here!

Our next move will be closer to the ski hills, so we can snow board all winter long! That 2hr travel one way can be pretty crazy depending on the weather conditions

Sorry I hit enter to quick. I'm new here. Here's my situation. I was born and raised in Southern Ca. (Los Angeles) Been a city boy for my entire life and am sick of it. Highest taxes in the U.S. Crime is rampant as well as welfare abuse. Gang bangers and a tremendous amount of illegal aliens as we are a border state with Mexico. Horrible traffic and only two seasons. Fall and summer.

I am so past the city life and so is my wife; she's from Miami. We are looking to retire early and move to Maine. I've been doing a lot of research. I notice that the most negative comments tend to come from those that are from Maine. I want an honest assessment.

We want to live next to the ocean. We wish to respect the culture of Maine and it's people. How do residents of Maine take to outsiders, especially from the West Coast? We got a lot of stares when we vacationed in North Carolina a few years ago. People could tell we were not from there. Living in such a congested city, (11,000,000) you tend to move fast and furious in life. I know it will take us time to slow down. Any hints and advise is appreciated. We won't need work as we are retiring so jobs are not in the picture.

We are so looking forward to seasons and are willing to live in the winter. I thank in advance any help and look forward to visiting Maine soon.

molto grazie mio amici's
