Alert any dog is right- especially if 5 of them, and hunters by breed.

34 F this morning. Brought all the tropical plants in last night: ficus, succulents, and some others. I'm sure they are not happy but I promised them I would get a grow light for them in the winter, so maybe they feel better.

Enjoy the next couple days...looks like winter (or Late Fall) comes in next week. Arctic air about to bleed down into the region.

NWS introducing the S word in the discussions. Models hinting at accumulations in Northern Maine.

National Weather Service Text Product Display

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CARIBOU ME
915 AM EDT SUN OCT 11 2015

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...

A TREND TOWARD COLDER WEATHER EXPECTED DURING THE LONG TERM AS AN
UPPER TROUGH GETS CARVED OUT ACROSS THE NORTHEAST U.S. BY LATE IN THE
WEEK AS THE UPPER PATTERN BECOMES MORE AMPLIFIED ACROSS THE
CONUS. A SERIES OF FRONTS AND SHORTWAVES WILL CROSS THE AREA WITH
THE CHANCE OF A FEW SHOWERS. THE AIR MASS WILL LIKELY TURN COLD
ENOUGH THAT ANY SHOWERS THAT FALL COULD FALL IN THE FORM OF RAIN
OR SNOW ACROSS THE FAR NORTH BY LATE WED NIGHT. ATTENTION TURNS TO
A POSSIBLE COASTAL LOW THIS WEEKEND THAT HAS THE POTENTIAL OF
PRODUCING AN EARLY SEASON SNOW EVENT ACROSS PARTS OF THE
REGION...ESPECIALLY ACROSS THE NORTHERN PORTION OF THE CWA.

LOW
PRESSURE MAY DEVELOP ALONG THE NEW ENGLAND COAST SATURDAY MORNING
AND TRACK NORTHEAST INTO THE MARITIMES. THERE IS STILL SIGNIFICANT
MODEL AND ENSEMBLE SPREAD AND WITH IT BEING NEARLY A WEEK OUT THE
DETAILS REMAIN UNCERTAIN...BUT IT CERTAINLY BEARS WATCHING. THE
LATEST 00Z GFS HAS A WEAKER/FLATTER SYSTEM PASSING SOUTH OF THE
AREA. THE 00Z ECMWF HAS A MUCH STRONGER LOW, BUT IS FURTHER NORTH
TRACKING THE LOW ACROSS DOWNEAST MAINE. IN ANY EVENT, THERE IS
HIGH CONFIDENCE ON A COLDER THAN NORMAL PATTERN TAKING HOLD LATE
IN THE WEEK AND CONTINUING AT LEAST INTO EARLY THE FOLLOWING
WEEK. THE LATEST CPC 6-10 DAY OUTLOOK AND CFSV2 CONTINUE TO
ADVERTISE COLD ANOMALIES ACROSS NEW ENGLAND.

We are in Sedona, Arizona. I hated to leave Maine during peak foliage time. I like October. Plus, the weather here is too HOT HOT HOT for my northern blood. It is 88 today. Baking sun. The next time my wife says we have to go visit the in-laws, I am holding out for November!!

From NWS Gray.

Text Data

IMMEDIATE SOUTHWEST MAINE COAST DURING THE UPCOMING WEEKEND.

Love it ! So, in Maine, we don't count how many snow days there Are, but rather how many days it doesn't know... Gotcha ' !! Now I get it....

That is an example of a misleading statistic. The summer and early fall (in Caribou and I assume all of Maine) were actually great.
On May 24 very few people in the County saw even the tiniest trace of snow.
That is probably the case with yesterday too.

It's a statistic on last and first snowfall for a specific location. Nothing more.

Unfortunately there are only a couple of "official" stations in Maine and other states that keep track of weather data. But the point was, Caribou never had such a short time period of no snow falling. (since the 1930s)

Haha! Easier to count the snowless days there. Don't forget.. Caribou had the 3rd longest streak with 3"+ on the ground at 147 days in a row last winter
