And you can post exclusively negative stories that have nothing to do with Massachusetts in a thread called "Coronavirus in Massachusetts", just don't expect to go unquestioned. It's not all skeletons and death, either.

If it were the Moderna trials that were postponed, at least that would be topical to this thread. Janssen is based in New Jersey.

In defense of redplum, there were pages & pages of this thread recently that went off the rails talking about real estate prices in various parts of the state. At least redplum's content is related to coronavirus.

Wasn't that speculation on what COVID would do to those prices?

I understand the urge to only focus on depressing stuff to convince people to take COVID seriously, but relentless pessimism is as dangerous as relentless optimism.

I for one don't understand the urge. Focusing on the negative doesn't change minds or convince anyone to do positive things, though it can convince them to do negative things.

'Scared straight' tactics don't work and never have. All of the lamenting over numbers and 'wear. your. damn. mask.' and similar PR messages meant to illicit a change in behavior in the non-compliant have done a fine job of changing nothing. The people wearing masks have done so willingly, and the ones who don't only dig in to their resentment bunkers deeper when confronted with the over-the-top rage and shaming from the signalers.

As you state, constant negative spotlight is dangerous unless the goal is to batter people until they either develop anxiety or become hostile.

A problem with a vaccine trial has nothing to do with Massachusetts?

Dr. Fauci's outlook for the fall has nothing to do with Massachusetts?

I guess that stuff only affects the other 49 states.

This is the standard approach for drug development, and this is why you do large clinical trials in an expanded population.

The AZ study was similarly paused a few weeks ago, and later restarted.

And by the way, jayrandom, if you actually watched the video, you'd know that Johnson & Johnson is working with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

It's not a problem with the vaccine trial! Here's a quote from another article:

Quote:
Such a pause is not immediately concerning, agreed Dr. Ashish Jha, the dean of the Brown University School of Public Health."This is completely expected, and it's just a reminder how ridiculous it is to try and meet a political timeline of having a vaccine before Nov. 3," Jha told CNN's Chris Cuomo.
"The Johnson & Johnson trial is the biggest trial of the vaccine that I know of -- 60,000 people," Jha said. "Within that trial you'd expect a few pauses."

It's a bit like saying that a plane that had divert to another airport is a problem with Airbus. Maybe it was a problem with the plane, maybe it's a systematic flaw with all planes, or maybe it's just a passenger had a heart attack. Without context it's meaningless.

And they sell BAND-AIDS in CVS.

I didn't say you aren't allowed to post it, just that's it's scare-mongering noise. You have zero interest in discussing the implications of the event or its particular relevance to Massachusetts. Why did you post it? What are the implications?

The trial was paused because a problem was encountered. As the video pointed out, this is not unusual. But it is still a problem. It wouldn't be all over the news if it wasn't.
