I have no issues with Duxbury.

I'd choose Duxbury all day over Brookline. Brookline is crowded, loud and has no parking. Are there even homes with yards? No thanks.

I don't see what's so great about Brookline either. Maybe if I was able to live in a secluded mansion there but many Brookline folks live in tiny cramped apartments that they pay through the nose for.

Yes, there are some very large homes with yards, it depends on the area of the town. Brookline is very convenient, but I'd prefer Duxbury, too.

I'd rather get this in Duxbury for the same price.

It's actually a bit less, brand new, and has a guest house lol.

It's been on the market for kind of a while though....

I like that the backyard is secluded and you still get a little sliver of greespace too. Not crazy about the actual house though. I could spend $1M and get something I like better in Duxbury.

The guest house would be useless for me, you'd have to have a reason to want a home with a guest house and legally you can't rent that out. I guess you could under the table, but who spends 2.5M on a house like that to have someone renting right behind them? It's basically a whole other house. I could see people have parents live with them, but things like that are typically temporary. Seems like a commitment to buy something that has a guest house not to mention the price for that is higher because of the guest house.

I'd LOVE to live in Brookline. Not in my current stage of life. More likely I'd be happier there when my kids are older or moved out. I've love to live in a townhouse on Aspinwall Hill. Nice quiet area but you can walk down the hill to hop on the T. The big draw for Brookline (aside from the fact that it has excellent schools for such a dense/urban area) is that a lot of it is walkable and there's lots of public transportation options.

Where you want to live is such an intensely personal decision and sometimes it has to do with stage of life. So, that opinion can certainly change over time. Personally, you couldn't pay me to live in Duxbury. Way too far removed from the city for my taste. Way too quiet of a town. Plus, all of those reports of anti-semitism, etc. in the news last year really turned me off.
