That's "Warning", the Red Hat Society's poem.

You know, today I met with three people in their 90's, only one "acted" old. All were in various stages of disability. Two of the people were happy, cheerful, one asked me for a date, "as long as I don't tell his other GF or his wife"...old rogue! But one, was just miserable, and did not want help. "Everything is rotten, just leave me alone".

You choose your attitude towards age. The guy who wants a date, he is still "young"!

I still haven't realized I am old. I know that in terms of years (52 in February) I have a lot of years experience. I guess there was a "coming of age" moment when my parents died (3 years apart) and the realization that many of my friends parents were dead as well.
But do I feel OLD? not in the least. The only concern is the difficulty I have in moving around. I cannot get 275 pounds to move like I did when I was 23.

Well, not so much feel old normally, but finally starting to get crows feet in the last weeks, sure does make me feel old like a sledge hammer hit me suddenly. For the first time, I've started giving some serious stares at the anti-wringle cremes at the makeup section of the stores.

This feeling too shall pass just as soon as I get over staring at the new facial designs and I plug my headphones into my ears to listen to the dance tunes on my mp player. I'm gonna rock this chair out. That's right, sing on Maroon 5......moves like Jagger.

So happy there aren't any mirrors in here.

"Things" can happen at any age. My daughter has been suffering from chronic headache since she was a Junior in high school. This February will be her 2 year headache anniversary.

I realized I was no longer young when men started looking at her behind instead of mine!

I don't mind being middle aged. My father is 80 yrs old. He is in a wheelchair now. He didn't want to exercise and do PT as aggressively as I think he should have. Watching him, has motivated me to be more active and make healthier choices in my life.

My daughter's choices to live her life despite the pain, has also motivated me to not be such a whiner.

Default Mixed feelings about this thread...

I'm having mixed feelings about this thread...I actually came back to end subscribtion...but then I end up reading what others post...and get all confused...

It's a mixture of joy and sadness...
I can't explain it....even though I don't know any of the posters...when I hear their stories i feel like I know them all...

I can't explain it...the human experience I guess...or even a pet cat or dog experience...watching your own pet grow old...or even a tree...or celebrities you grew up watching...

Anyhow...this thread, and the sentiments expressed on, kind of remind me of this movie here...Terms of endearment....I've never seen this film all the way through...

But it just reminds me of this thread...where you have people dealing with 'time'...moving on, and the consequences of older age...

But for some reason I always thought it was Burt Renolds who starred in this, instead of Jack Nickolsen....
But I think this movie fits this thread here pretty good...in that it deals with themes of 'realization'...moving on and such....

Terms Of Endearment Trailer - YouTube

Maybe one day I'll actually rent it or buy it, and sit down and watch the whole movie from beggining to end...and derive meaning from it....

Cheers to those who have lived, and gone before us....

When my managers at my job are younger than I.
And when people call me sir. It annoys me to no end.
When I am enjoying the latest music/movie/game/cartoon and a preteen or teen tells me I need to act my age.... gah.

It happened to me in 1969 when I was arguing with members of the SDS* about their plans to sabotage US defense plants. When I told them their whole idea was manifestly wrong and just plain stupid, they said: "We couldn't expect you to understand, you're part of the Beatle generation...". There I was, over the hill at 25.

*Students for a Democratic Society, remember them? Bill Ayers' ideological kindred.
