Miami needs to diversify its economy more, so that tourism isn't the only biggest thing running our economy. Yes tourism will always be Miamis biggest money maker, but we took a hit through this economy tanking. This I think showed us that we need to get other going in our economy, or at least grow the smaller things like banking. Forbes just put an article out on cities that are diversified and how they are fairing in this market. And they are fairing pretty well compared to those that pigeon holed into one sector. It can't hurt Miamis economy if we diversify.

It's funny how a post or two on this thread from back in March say we should drill more in the Gulf of Mexico, to eliminate oil dependence. Talk about predicting the future!

Anyways, I'd love to see the Metrorail (or a monorail) go all over the place, even up into Broward, I'd love to see high-class shopping Downtown (Whole Foods, Barnes and Noble etc in Met 3) and less of the tacky little shops, I'd love to no longer see homeless hang around the Bayside area, I'd love to see sidewalks everywhere separated from the road by nice grassy areas so you don't feel like someone's gonna run you over if you go for a walk, and yes, solar panels on every rooftop!

Solar panelled rooftops will be the norm,in the future...

I'd like to see Mia as the world's capital of electric vehicles...

All electric & noiselesss,cars,bikes,PWCs,boats...

Serenity & tranquillity...

Even electric cars get stuck in traffic, though.

I don't imagine many people find bumper to bumper on the Palmetto very serene.

Very good plan!

Noise causes subconscious frustration...

A noiseless car will feel much more pleasant & more tolerable, even stuck in traffic...

As for noiseless boats/PWCs,they will be dream machines for Mia...
The dreadful noise of petrol marine engines, sounding like hippopotamus' belching, will be gone...

City of Mia should be the "LA of FL",only on sensible enviro measures of course...

How about better mass transit and tougher punishments for reckless drivers? That'd be a damn good start.

If individualism means having to sit in a car choking in traffic when it's 95 degrees outside, surrounded by a++hole drivers, keep it. Any modern, successful city needs a mixture of good roads and a good mass transit alternative. You cannot have just one or the other an your attitude is very backward and gladly, it's an attitude that is slowly fading in the 21st century.

Besides, where do you think the money comes from to build and maintain roads an to police them? It comes from the PUBLIC kitty, just like mass transit. Individualism does not apply in this argument.

I know you're not from the US, but railroads are really a major part of why America is so powerful today. Passenger rail also played a very important role. Rails transported people throughout the country and made it possible to visit places quickly and easily. Systems in cities like the NYC Subway is part of what allowed the city to flourish like it has.

Without a comprehensive rail system, cities do not prosper as much as those that do.
