Dubai copied Miami. Miami had man made islands long before Dubai. Ours might not be as fancy but we had them first.

Lets be serious, Dubai has no reason to copy Miami. Besides before Miami had man made Islands, Japan had them and so did Denmark, Singapore, Mexico and about every other country on the planet.

Ehm,which ones are those humanmade (pc term) islands in Mia..?

If so,let's expand that very good idea...

I dream of a Mia as a waterway city, much better than Venice ( Italy)...

The Venetian Islands, Star, Palm and Hibiscus Islands, Dodge Island, North Bay Village, the list goes on.

If it looks pretty square or round or oval, chances are it's man made.

Humanmade islets,
in shallow calm waters,
cost effective,rivaling mainland prices,
are a very realistic dream...

Quite dangerous for bicycle riders...and for kids as well.

It's hard to know if a 'death machine' is coming up behind you or not...when you can't hear anything.

(Speaking as a regular bicyclist - not in MIA).

We would have to have a bus or a rail station of some kind every few blocks to get the masses to use public transit. And from what I know people have always fought the introduction of new rail. As most people like the idea of public transit, but just don't build it near me concern comes to mind. I would love to give up my car, but I don't see it happening here in Miami.
I have a solution. I was JUST talking about this with a friend. Why not tree lined streets through out Miami? Not those stupid palm trees either but trees with enough foliage to provide adequate shade. Then walking around wouldn't be a issue. Well it would but you would have one less thing to beat you down (the sun). Also, there is no reason to have non A/C train station in S. Florida. Also platforms should have those mist blower things to keep you cool.

^^^I like it, but what about the power lines, they would all need to be put underground for hurricane purpose so the trees don't fall on them or the branches don't touch the lines. I like this idea!!!! The county has added a lot of trees the last fews years actually, what are they calling it, beautification of Miami via greenscaping or something like that...
