You don't say? Well, first he'd need to get in contact with the committee man or union steward to negotiate proper compensation . Then, evict all the hunters, sportsmen, and gun owners . Then, Flint would have to become its own country, separate from Michigan or the United States, with its own sovereignty. Under the socialist rulership of our dear old friend Mike, I would then need a passport and a visa to get in!

New here- Hi everyone
Alot of mixed feelings here....
I grew up in Flint. I remember shopping along Saginaw Street before the malls got here. Very fond memories, as the city was booming- Not a care in the world then, and it was a beautiful city. It could be again!
What happened? A huge combination of things..politics, outsourcing, you name it. Flint died almost overnight, it seems. Buildings emptied and began to deteriorate, housing homeless beggars at night. As the auto industry that built the city began to move out, good people were forced out. (Those of you who complain about the crime rate need to realize this: Economy and opportunity have ALOT to do with it- right on down to how many officers we can afford to keep on the beat!) Why didn't other industries come in?
As a homeowner still here at the present time, I can tell you the whole state is struggling. Genesee County is at its worse. More people are losing jobs they have had for decades (especially blue collar). More shops closing, which have been the backbone to our economy. More home forclosures, property values diving, taxes rising, etc, etc, etc. Those working in the medical feilds are probably ok for now, but small businesses are dropping like flies. Goods and services, skilled trades...you're finding it difficult now too. Unions are doomed.
One big problem I know about first-hand? Labor. The white collar contract workers seem to be able to move pretty well between companies/locations. That is because the big industries are keeping most of those departments here in the US...But moving loads of the labor overseas..........(Hey, Mattel- You got what you wanted, didn't you?)
Yes, Flint CAN be a great place to live again...But for now? I would have to say, if you are an individual wanting a job- the market is more than saturated. If you are looking to bring in industry?...There are MANY MANY GOOD PEOPLE HERE WILLING TO WORK, and WORK HARD! We love our city and want to stay, so please give us a fighting chance!

Default If it weren't for the cold weather...

I'd be tempted to retire there, but not in Flint proper. We stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott in August and that area is pretty nice.

Driving along Hill Road, I was amazed at the price of the new homes, as well as the size of the lots. I could sell our home here and buy a palace. No problem with finding a job; we'd be retired.

But then there are the winters...

I would like to say I'm the person who usually have nothing but good to say about Michigan. As far as Flint, Michigan ( I have family there, so believe me. I know enough that goes on there.) It can almost seem worst than Detroit, bad thing about that Flint is much smaller than Detroit. I would recommand you to live in Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor, or East Lansing, Michigan ( As well as Lansing, Michigan. ) Its very nice in those areas, crime rate isnt high... but there is crime. Well check those places out for yourself. Hope you like snow.

I once lived in Flint. My parents are still there. My siblings and I live in different states. It is sad to think that living in Flint was never an option for us. If you are in the medical field, Flint is for you. Other than that....

I've spent extensive time in Flint and have never seen one corpse.

Come on.
