The polish community is extremely small compared to Chicago or Milwaukee.

North St. Paul actually is where Grumpy Old Men was filmed.

Yes, there is ice fishing and yes there are a lot of grumpy old men here, especially in that area.

The fishing is great, obviously. I personally spend most of my time fly fishing, though the lack of trout in the Twin Cities means I'm bass fishing when I'm close to home. The shore fishing around the Cities is pretty slow, but if you get a boat you can fish a different lake each weekend and never run out of new lakes to try.

Knowing that area well, I would consider my options carefully. North St. Paul use to be a nicer area but it has gone downhill for some time. North St. Paul is directly north of some of the poorer parts of St Paul. As a result, a larger part of that section is moving northward from the core. If you want to live on a lake, I would look at Shoreview or White Bear Lake area. Home prices can vary and like all lakefront property, they will be higher priced compared to inland real estate.

Ok so now that I've been looking at some houses… I've noticed not a lot of them are updated on the inside… anyone have any recommendations of good neighborhoods in between maplewood and anoka that maybe have either newer construction or that might be updated a bit? seems like the real estate agent we've been working with only keeps showing me houses that the interior is stuck in the 70s … any reply would be awesome! I'm running out of time and really need to find a house
