I am wondering if anyonehas moved to missouri from wisconsin. We have considered the move for a few years but I am afraid of the heat!!!, but the severe cold we have had in Northern wisconsin is really getting into my bones and I hurt all over. I know it is cold in Missouri, but yesterday morning it was 20 below with a 50 below wind chill.,. How do you think I would like MO. We have looked at the northern part around Kirksville or Memphis., Any replies would be appreciated

The cold here would be nothing to you compared to where you are now. I have lived here for about 8 years now and can't get use to the severe weather. Colorado is my favorite state. When we move again it will be back to Denver or Colorado Springs.

Honestly if you live that far north in Missouri, I suspect you'll like the weather a good bit. It's still cold in the winter and hot in the summer but not the extremes you have in Wisconsin or the excruciating heat you find in Southern Missouri.

It gets into the 90s here sometimes in summer (in southeast Missouri), northern Missouri isn't quite as hot. It gets hot, but I'm used to it. In winter it occasionally dips into single digits, but it's been about 25-32 for a few days. We've been out of school pretty much all week because ice is covering everything. It'll probably melt Thursday (supposed to be 50s then), and Friday night it's supposed to snow again.

It gets into the humid 90s here in NY too, and can be quite unbearable for about two weeks during the summer (we don't have air conditioning). I start to get cranky when the temp around 85 in the house in the afternoon, and then doesn't cool down much overnight. Probably it is a given in Missouri to have air conditioning everywhere. Where in SE Missouri do you live? |

There's very little summer temp. difference between the northern or southern part of the state.

Actually that's not true.
May: Kirksville, MO is an average of 4 degrees cooler than Springfield, MO: 76, 72 June: Kirksville 81, Springfield 85 July: 86, 90 August: 85, 90 Sept: 77, 81 Although these differences might seem fairly small when looking at them, think about the difference between an average of 90 and an average of 85. IN southern Missouri you'll have far more 90+ degree days than in the north of the state. |

Hi Everyone,
So with the few degrees difference, is there a longer growing season in Southeast Missouri? I thought because of the elevation of the Ozarks, it kind of evened things out? We visited Mansfield at the end of July, and it was hot, 85-90, but bearable. We then traveled to Lake Gaston in NC to visit relatives....now that was steamy in comparison. The actual temp was 105, and the heat index was 115. The humidity was oppressive. In comparison, the humidity seemed okay in Missouri, any thoughts on that? When would you say spring begins in the Ozarks? When do you get the first leaves coming out on the trees? What trees are the earliest bloomers? Last edited by tambre; 02-13-2008 at 10:36 AM. People in Missouri complain a lot about the humidity here, and they're not wrong, it does get pretty bad in the summer. But it's also not nearly as bad as some coastal areas like North Carolina.
I hate humidity! It makes my curly hair all kooky! ![]() |
