The State Journal (Jefferson City) December 12, 1873 Pg2
A BOLD ROBBERY
A country store located in the southwestern part of Cass County, Missouri, about 20 miles from Harrisonville, and a 1/2 mile from the Kansas state line, was on last Friday evening, the scene of the boldest, coolest and most remarkable robbery ever perpetrated, even in the crime paradise of the southwest.
Mr. Bryant was working alone in the Bryant & Chandler store when two mounted strangers rode up and entered. They talked very friendly and sociably. They bought a common wool scarf while keeping up their lively conversation. Suddenly they both drew revolvers, pointed them at Mr. Bryant's head and demanded money. He was seized by the strangers and securely bound, the scarf being used for this purpose. He was then blindfolded and his pockets ransacked, about $400 being taken.
The robbers then began grabbing items that struck their fancy. A neighborhood farmer had come in and he too was blindfolded, bound and had his pockets rifled. Two others came in and the same operation was repeated, except one managed to escape and run out the front door.
He was chased by a robber who put a bullet into his hip and dragged back into the store, then tied and blindfolded. Two more, who came in separately, were treated in a similar manner. The robbers now had six men all securely bound. A boy, about 14, came in and the robbers used him to fetch items from the shelves that they wanted.
They were extremely good-humored during the whole proceeding, cracking jokes with each other at the expense of the prisoners. An Irishman who was among the unlucky crowd was a special object of their humor. He only had 40 cents on him and the robbers rated him as a " damn poor cuss."
The wounded man was questioned and examined to learn the extent of his injury. When the robbers took possession of his pocketbook, the wounded man told them it only contained papers that would be no use to them. They concluded he could not be seriously hurt or he would not be worried about a bunch of damned old papers.
The thieves loaded up on cigars, tobacco, whisky, gloves, clothing, etc.
They then marched their captives outside the store, still tied and blindfolded. Before mounting, one of the robbers told the file of prisoners that he would watch them 15 minutes and if a man moved he would be instantly shot. The robbers then rode away, taking a third horse with them that had been hitched in front of the store.
Pursuit was started as soon as possible but the trail was lost. They are each about 25-years old, intelligent and rather good looking. One has sandy whiskers, light hair and eyes and stands about six feet tall. The other is shorter and has dark hair and a mustache. $500 reward has been offered for their apprehension.
It is supposed by some that the robbers are none other than the Younger brothers, who have resided since the war, near Monegaw Springs, Missouri, and have become notorious since the war for their outlaw deeds.

BURGLARY AT MAITLAND
The safe in the Kansas City, St. Joseph & Council Bluffs depot at Maitland was opened Thursday night and robbed of about $900. Little is known of the manner in which the robbery was perpetrated, as it was done in the night, and was not discovered till morning.
The safe was not blown open, nor was the lock broken. It was simply unlocked by someone who evidently understood the art of opening safes.
The station at Bradyville, on the same road, was also entered, the safe broken open and $192 taken. The entrance was made through the window and the safe broken with a sledge hammer.

STORE ROBBED
Tuesday night someone forced an entrance into Tony Joseph's grocery store and took ten dollars from the cash drawer. The lock was broken off the cellar door and it is probable that the thief made his way through the basement. In the money stolen was a new dollar bill and through this Mr. Joseph thinks he has a good clue in regard to the burglar. He says he does not want to prosecute if he can get his lost money back.

The imprints of a wooden leg which Charles Dukes wears were the cause of his being convicted of a burglary charge in the criminal court in Springfield Saturday. He was given three years in the state prison. Following the robbery of a store there, Dukes became active in aiding the police to run down the robbers. Detectives caught a glimpse of the imprints of his wooden leg and arrested him, then he confessed.

METZ DEPOT BURGLARIZED
Metz, Mo., Feb 10---Last night, sometime after the 9:20 northbound train passed here, the depot was entered by a sneak thief, by prying up one of the windows.
There was nothing taken, which the agent could miss, except the letter mail. The mail sack had been opened and rifled of its contents which was probably very little. The night mail is usually very light and is not delivered to the post office until morning. There is no clue to the party.

STORE ROBBED AT BLOSSER
The Utz & Sailor general merchandise store at Blosser was robbed Tuesday night, Aug 19, by tramps. The robbers forced their way into the store through a back window that was protected by iron bars.
Mrs. Blosser, who lives near the store was awakened by the noise around 11 o'clock. She called her husband, Dr. Blosser, and together they watched the tramps leave and go east down the Missouri Pacific railroad tracks.
Mr. Blosser sounded the alarm and citizens trailed and captured the robbers at a corn crib on a farm east of the Miami crossing. They had in their possession the stolen goods, consisting of a pair of shoes, pocket knives, a large amount of tobacco and canned goods. They gave their names to Sheriff Price as John Adams, Joe Cane, George Bates and Joe Howard.
The Blosser store has been entered a number of times before by robbers. The last time it was entered a safe was blown open.
