[quote=rickers;10291083]If the people of Montana were to be allowed to secede we would soon become poverty stricken in no time flat. Tons of federal money pours into this state gleaned from taxpayers in other states. We would have no access to a seaport and the aboriginals would make a play for their land back.
Oh and by the way I'm not sure about some of the other tribes treaties with the feds but the Blackfeet and the Flatheads do not own their reservation land, (some natives were awarded small deeded allotments though). The so called tribal land is owned by the federal government and held in trust for the tribes use. The tribes only manage their reservations, I own property on the the Flathead reservation and I'm as white as white can be. The notion that the reservations are sovereign nations is nonsense and the notion that Montana will benefit from an attempt at succession is nonsense. How did you get land on the reservation?

I simply just bought the property. It has a huge wooden mobile home on the deeded large lot on a corner right on the edge of the town of Hot Springs a few blocks from the hot mineral soaking tubs. I lived in it for about 12 years before we moved to our current location. We have renters in the place now.
Most of the best farm land on the rez is owned by non Indians. There are several places in town for sale and there are large parcels of valley land that comes up for sale often. Our Governor Brian Schweitzer owns a beautiful hunk of farmland on the Flathead Reservation just outside of Hot Springs.

Overlay that with a map showing Reservation land, and you'll notice an interesting correlation, at least west of the Mississippi.

Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Actually, all it says is that they can't hold Federal office (unless pardoned). Um... isn't that the whole point of secession?!

And methinks the Declaration of Independence and the 10th Amendment are even clearer.

14th Amendment to the Constitution Was Ratified
July 28, 1868
On July 28, 1868, the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified. The amendment grants citizenship to "all persons born or naturalized in the United States" which included former slaves who had just been freed after the Civil War. The amendment had been rejected by most Southern states but was ratified by the required three-fourths of the states. Known as the "Reconstruction Amendment," it forbids any state to deny any person "life, liberty or property, without due process of law" or to "deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of its laws."

Ya'll read more into it than what it actually states. you are trying to find a reason for secession to be illegal but it is not illegal nor is it being a traitor.

GOD BLESS TEXAS AND THE MILITARY
ROLL UP YOUR SLEEVES AND LET THE BATTLE BEGIN
