Yea but the fact is that, that stretch between Plains and Thompson Falls is not all that remote and the power transmission lines and the railroad tracks really detract from any wilderness or unspoiled feeling.
That stretch of the Clark Fork is short on trout and big on Squaw-fish Bass and Pike, not that I don't like to fish for those but it's not the pristine Montana that many folks imagine, also that long shotgun stretch gets upstream wind like you wouldn't believe, current against white-cap waves, few access points etc. not the best river floating section at all. It is in a very pretty area though. I like to go up to Graves Creek Falls and have a picnic lunch once in a while. I go up into Fishtrap Lake too. I take the whole Famdamley and we go for a short hike or two.

Jarsmom
I was only in New Mexico for two years (orginally from Virginia). I was first in Grants, then the Kirtland Air Force Base, Rio Rancho and then Velarde (north of Espanola), but visited Santa Fe tons. I am staying with friends in Sarasota, Fla. until I relocate to my next job.
