That was indeed a good movie. No doubt someone will come along and say they don't care for Will Smith.

I dunno, I think it is just about impossible to pick a movie that nobody will find fault with.

A Christmas Story is pretty likeable. I think the reason movies like The Shawshank Redemption didn't do to well at the time was that people were not ready for a "feel good" movie about prison and convicts. Imho.
The Yearling

I can't think of one movie which would be universally loved as we all have different criteria as to what constitutes a great film.

I dislike many of the movies listed on this thread for example ( "National Lampoon", "Jerry Macguire", "Hitch", "Caddyshack", "Ghost", "Gone with the Wind","Ghostbusters, ""Pretty woman", Aladdin", "Ghosbusters", and a lof of Disney movies since the late 80s would be my idea of cinematic purgatory if not quite hell).

Movies speak to us in different ways and as such their appeal can be quite elusive, no matter how popular. I remember 99.9% of people loving " For Weddings and A Funeral" or " "Slumdog Millionaire" when they came out and praising them to the skies and I found the first excruciatingly bad and the second grossly underwhelming... Neither did anything whatsoever for me.

I will take 'Bad Thread Titles" for 200, Alex.

Perhaps the OP was way too emotional when he/she started this thread?
dude, are you just acting stupid for the sake of argument, or are you truly unable to grasp the concept of a universally, or almost universally well recieved movie.

i've never heard anyone say a negative thing about Goodfellas. have you?

i've never heard anyone say a negative thing about The Shawshank Redemption. those are the kind of movies i'm talking about, if that clarifies any misunderstanding.

I think he was referring to the double negative in the thread title. "Movies nobody doesn't like" could be rephrased as "Moves everyone likes"

Now if it would have the same meaning is debatable... I think "Movies no one dislikes" would sound better myself-- but then again is that a double negative as well? Grammar Nazi's please come correct me!

Goodfellas

Groundhog Day
Don't really care for either of those movies.

Sorry, did someone actually say Pursuit of Happiness? Blecch. I like Will Smith, but please.

I agree with Forrest Gump and Shawshank Redemption.

Can definitely see Home Alone, but only from a holiday point of view.

This is hilarious...the op asked for the most universally liked movies and the ones offered up so far have been some of the most mediocre...with many examples of movies I don't care for at all. And then people actually said things like "Hangover," which definitely speaks to a particular taste and crowd. I thought it was a sad, boring shadow of American Pie.

I love the Vacation movies, but I can see how they would not at all speak universally to people.

What about the Indiana Jones movies?
