Nowadays, many "singers" use "Auto-Tune" software to correct notoriously bad voices - most notably Taylor Swift. But back in the time of Queen "Auto-Tune" software did not exist. In the 60s and 70s there was no "Google", "Android", laptop computer, chromebook, etc. Advanced engineering software like Matlab, Python IDE, Intelij or Eclipse for Java, etc. did not exist yet. Most computer processors were of rudimentary quality. The engineers of the day could not make a voice "sound" better with computers.

Hence, it took legitimate vocal talent like Queen's lead singer to carry the music of the day. Other examples include Karen Carpenter, Dionne Warwick, Joni Mitchell, Jim Morrison, William Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Robert Palmer, etc. They were indeed the "Champions".

The 2:26 mark shows Karen's talent without Auto-Tune.

A biographical film about Joni Mitchell had been planned with Taylor Swift in the role, but Joni refused. Taylor simply does not have the extreme vocal talent to match Joni without "Auto-Tune" software. Joni excelled at a time when vocalists had to thrive without "Auto-Tune".

In the 1970s Apple Computer was barely getting started and did not have the technology to enhance bad voices in a typical music recording studio like today. Bad singers couldn't use computers to enhance voices because they simply weren't evolved enough to do so.

I love lots of singers who don’t have perfect vocals. Bob Dylan, Bono from U2, Courtney Love with Hole. None of them would win a singing competition, but I’d listen to them over many voices that are perfect.

Actually once 24 track tape machine became common in studios, engineers and producers were comping vocals.
The singer does a whole lot of takes of the songs on tape and then the engineer and producer piece the good parts together on 1 track. So all of the artists you mentioned wouldnt have recorded what you hear on a few takes. Freddie was no different.

I did just see the movie tonight, and it was good, but I couldnt watch it again after reading the article that shows the real events.
The wigs were pretty bad ,but if you look at the hair of Queen throughout their career, the wigs in the movie were spot on. Hair was horrendous.

But Im glad now I know What Bismillah means! He really threw in those middle eastern ties.

I really half-way expected them to do that. It would truly have had a great impact, rolling the actual Live Aid 1985 footage over the ending credits.

I liked this film.

I hated it that people mocked him for his bad teeth, though. I had a bad overbite until I got my braces on when I was 12, and I had the same problem with people talking about my teeth.

I haven’t met anyone but myself and the critics who didn’t like it!

I really enjoyed the movie, even thinking about seeing it again. I was never a Queen fan but I remember the band very well growing up.
My thoughts:

The fake teeth was overkill. Sure, he had the teeth issue but they didn't need to really focus on that with the fake teeth on the actor. Very distracting at times.
They should have used the actual Live Aid footage at the end. I honestly don't understand why they didn't. Maybe for legal reasons?
I'm glad they didn't use someone else's singing voice during the movie, like the did with Selena.
I loved that Mike Meyers was in the movie. Perfect!
Despite him being gay/bi, I'm happy they kept the storyline a main focus that he forever loved Mary. That was sweet.

They certainly did. A variety of voices were used. A little of Rami Malek's was mixed in, but mostly Marc Martel combined with Queen tracks.

Really? Wow, I didn't know that. Sounded like Freddie Mercury to me.
