As for my post I could not get a picture safely but the foliage is getting very pretty along the Hutchinson River Parkway. We are being rewarded for a soggy summer with a dry and warm last full week of October. That brings out the foliage and doesn't douse them off the trees with rain. Supposed to be in upper 70's for a while.
a baby barred owl flew from the ground to a tree branch
while i was walking my dogs. i say "baby" since it was
about half-size of an adult owl. did not make a sound.
I saw another murmuration last evening!! husband called me to the window to see hundreds (?) of birds pecking in the yard. I recognized this from the phenomena I saw earlier in the year. They took off in formation and went to the front of the house. Magnificent!!! whirling and curling. I ran to the front trying to get a quick video but no luck. They were already airborne again and I heard the loud 'whirring' noise....it was almost like a propellor. It was awe inspiring!
As the acorns fall more I am seeing more deer again. I had three in our spare lot a few days ago. I got some new neighbors with three little kids. My wife called them to tell them to look at the deer in their front yard which is across the street from my spare lot. She could hear the two year girl squealing in the background over the phone.
Hardly any fall colors until this past Monday. It turned very cold and a bit of rain. Brilliant colors as I drove home, but going away from home it had been sunny, hot and dry for so long that there were far fewer leaves on the trees and they were mostly yellow. It was really interesting to see the change inside of several hours. Very disappointing, this year in terms of fall colors. Right now it's 28 degrees outside. A cold snap. It won't last. A few Canada geese at the lake; they're arriving very slowly this year.

10/30. Battalion of Canadian Geese are in/passing thru Redmond WA. They may have been just passing thru or will stay put around Lake Sammamish. I think they are just passing thru, no enough grass fields locally compared to the Willamette Valley grass seed fields, 200 miles south. Getting late to be still migrating to wintering grounds.
