I drove from Moose Jaw Saskatchewan to Niagara falls last week. 2900 km in total. I have done that drive a lot of times and have seen a lot of wildlife along the route. I did't see too much this time. Two moose, one fox, one beaver and one bald eagle. It was stormy and raining hard most of the way and I guess most of the critters were under shelter.
You see and get photos of such beautiful locations, wildlife and plants etc., uggabugga. Do you know what the name of the red "sallymander"?
Never seen such a small fawn in the wild...yes, hope mom was close by.
Awesome for you to see the little one in person...my previous location a doe would have twins each yr...never saw them really small though, just older but still with spots.
Looks like a great trail through the mt laurel. That location in WV looks quite similar to Roan Mt, along the border of TN/NC...a bald area with rocks and mt laurel and also rhododendron...long-range views.
Thanks uggabugga, we can always count on your trips to provide us with nature pics!
glad you enjoyed
i think the sallymander's name is bill
at Dolly Sods, WV last weekend - this poor little fawn didn't know what to do, it was so scared it just put it's head down and was shaking like a leaf
i hope it found it's way back to mama..
a nice colorful sallymander:
there were mountain laurels in bloom all over the top of the mountain, these pics don't really do them justice.

This is a Daddy Long Legs? Right? I have never seen a red one. But I have never seen one in the middle of nature either! HA Anyone know?
Here is one just because I got it back!

I was looking out of my patio windows this morning, this little Toad was strolling across the patio.
After a couple of minutes, I thought it best I get out there and move him, just as I got to the door, a Magpie that was just about to take him, had to make a hasty retreat, (he was within four feet if the little fellow)!
That was close!
Here are the pictures.
Yes, he was determined, so I then moved him to a much safer part of the garden.

BTW: uggaabugga's salamander is a Northern Red Salamander...
Gee, I don't know, GBH....it's a bit hard to tell in that photo but I'm guessing it's the Red Eft stage of a Red Spotted Newt. Tough to tell, size, spots, etc..
Explaining to a six year old what these creatures are...
