I didn't notice that, but I don't generally...

I saw a squirrel climbing down a crepe myrtle tree head first with a pecan in his mouth. He must have got that from one of the other trees.

Yesterday, two of these beautiful birds were walking around in the parking lot of a strip shopping center! There's plenty of wooded areas everywhere in Florida but it's such a worry to see them strolling around like that. Makes me wonder why. They were adult size and looked healthy, even fatter than this one I took a pic of last year outside my condo. That is a very busy intersection they were at yesterday, with all four corners full of stores and a mall at one corner. They are beautiful to see but I sure would like for them to stay in the bushes!

It's always interesting the way young animals play together while learning how to hunt and kill. I'm fascinated at any human who can raise and play with any type of bear, such as the man who raised Bart the bear actor. I watched him on TV rolling around on the ground playing with adult Bart. I took a quick look to see when Bart passed away. He was an Alaskan Kodiak, born 1977 and died 2000 and his mother was also in the movies! Bart was 9 feet tall! Imagine playing with something like that!

Getting a close look at their claws and teeth was one thing, but their overpowering strength and massive eminence was terrifying. (It's a great zoo, BTW, if you ever get the chance to go, do it!)

Seagulls are very smart. Once while we were in the ocean, we looked back and saw seagulls get into our bag and start pulling things out. They were looking for food. We had to run back to our towels and chase them off.

Almost as bad as raccoons!

I share your concerns for them, D Kitty. They are Sandhill Cranes, and Florida is directly in their migration path. It's what happens when we move into animal habitat, darn it. When humans and nature collide it rarely bodes well for nature. I wish we raised our children to have more respect for it, but I guess we have to have the respect to teach it.

Hopefully, this pair was just stopping for a rest before joining their flock in a safer place.
