Considering the price increase I do not think anyone would like to get out of contract because of delay. If someone do, I am pretty sure there are ways to do it. One of my friend sometime around 2006 (when prices were rising) found error in plan and used that to get out of contract because his closing date got pushed out. This is not fair to builder but then such long delay is not fair to buyer either. This year weather has been cooperative so there is no reason for 4 months delay unless builder got greedy and bit more than it can chew. My advice is keep pressure on builder as collective group ( setup meetup).

SRS1 and guest2014, thank you!

July and August, huh? Guess we can say goodbye to any hope this year....as our date was November.
Can understand one month or even two, if there is something that is a specific hurdle, but so many months!!!!

Do you know where your property is in terms of construction? Do you have some sense as to what is the delay about, other than what builder is saying?

I do not know what your situation is now where you are living, but we are renting...what a nightmare...don't know how much to extend lease....

practicalposts, thank you!

Yes 4 months is pretty shocking....does not appear to make any sense. This cannot just be poor planning or project management...

Hi All,

I am waiting to hear from D&G Electric regarding the entertainment upgrades. Does anyone has suggestions on what upgrades are worth getting, if any? What kind of options are present for Atlantic model.

Thanks

Did the builder's lawyer give you a definite date for closing? Our closing date was also in July. Now it looks like we will get it by end of Nov.

Thank you all for all the great information and advice. It has been very helpful in understanding the process of choosing a new construction home. Its just that there are barely any points left that would convince a sane mind on buying a 450K+ townhome when that same one was was less than 400K just 3 months back, in a badly rated school district, with probably the highest taxes in the state. Thanks for sharing your experiences and good luck to those experiencing delays.

Thanks, we bought an end unit in Feb when it was selling in the upper 300's (including upgrades). We don't have kids, so we don't have to worry abt school systems. As far as the wait period, I think its normal, a friend of ours bought a new home in North Jersey from a different builder and had to wait more than 4 months after the estimated delivery date.

GBR2014, do you have any idea what stage of completion your property is at? For example, has sheet rock been done?

We have been told 6-8 weeks from sheetrock, and nowhere close to that yet....so for end November you should be seeing that....

Thanks in advance.

Our drywall was done in first week of Sept. The last we checked, they were hanging the kitchen cabinets. Flooring will be next. We also spotted a few mistakes during construction and we put requests to get them fixed. So far they have been very helpful and fixed all of them.
I hope this helps.
