I've only recently joined the debate and read posts on a frequent basis. Most folks here are what I consider "salt of the earth", even when I disagree with them philosophically or politically. As is the norm these days, partisan subjects bring out the worst in some of us; myself included. I rue that I've been unpleasant with some here.

But Jersey has always been a "high cost" state to live in. So I'm curious that even many who express what I consider "Liberal" tendencies post here about government waste, yet still "pull the lever" for Democrats. You guys pay exhorbitant taxes and have a high cost of living even without that, (though I'll bet prices are influenced by state tax policy).

Why do you think so many refuse to give a Republican regime a chance for at least one election cycle? I mean top to bottom, not just a figurehead as Governor.

How about because it doesn't matter?

There is no difference between a Democrat and a Republican. None. Both want to take piles of unearned money and spend it on whatever they like. And more and more, they both like the same thing.

Well said, Marc. The Republican Party is lately a complete joke given it's traditional stands on issue's. "Democrat Lite", if you will.

The country does best when clear, discernable lines are drawn between the parties. Choices offered, then voted on.

What are your thoughts on this?

Christine Todd "Christie" Whitman wasn't exactly that long ago.

True; but what exactly do you mean by that?

Disernable lines?
We need a third party candidate at the very least. Nationally but locally would be even better.

My thoughts on this are that the quality of the citizenry has declined to the point where we are unable to distinguish between a good and bad choice. It seems that most Americans want collectivism; the disagreement is merely degree. But individual initiative? No longer a value. Rational self-interest? No longer a value. Freedom of association? And concomitantly and more importantly: disassociation? Not only not a value, but now a vice. Americans no longer choose principled leaders because Americans no longer value principles.

We no longer seek what is good. We seek compromise, concession, and capitulation. What "works" trumps what is "right". Except that we always end up learning in hindsight that ignoring what is right never ends up working.

"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one..." We now fully believe that most odious of sentiments. And so do our elected leaders. Therefore we deserve nothing better than what we have.

-Marc

What we actually need is someone who gives a rats butt about the citizens of NJ.

Steve Lonegan is our only hope. Let's hope the Republican crony hogs don't install Chris Christie as the nominee or we'll have another Whitman.
