if you don't like the lottery unit... don't take it. you WILL feel a way when you settle in, and you'll regret you did

True. Moving is so inconvenient and costly to be bothered by mediocrity.

Check into a Storage unit. Chances are when they get a bigger apt, they may transfer you.

You do realize that this thread is over 3 years old, right? The OP posed the question in Feb 2019! The process has changed since then and nowadays prospective tenants get to tour the apts earlier in the process. Prospective tenants get to make better informed decisions than it was the case in 2019. Totally different contexts!

Not always true. I went through the process for a building just in March and they did not invite me to view until after I was already HPD approved. And then, I was already assigned a unit and they only showed me that one unit, take it or leave it. It was also NOT because they only had the one unit available in my AMI and size, that was just how they were running their process, it varies by building.

Paying for a storage unit and rent doesn't seem like the best financial move

Agree. Especially when you have to buy new furniture to accommodate the new apartment.

So with all the negative and positive feedback to your comment, I am curious what did you end up doing? I would love to hear a follow-up or a where are they now lol. I believe that you curate your own happiness and sometimes it comes with change, much tears or nary a break in life as you know it. Whatever it is and however it goes it up to you to stay open to abundance. All the nay sayers say what you will it is just words we are all in the same boat from different perspectives, who am I or any of you to judge. Wishing you the best and definitely hoping for a follow-up tot his saga..
