Agreed. people soldiering on in tough times, Striving and working hard to make things better for themselves is admirable. Not scrawling signs, And running around whining and throwing tantrums. This is not Romper room. It's easy to be a tough guy (or gal) tossing vinegar into the faces of the NYPD from a large crowd, Officers who are working hard and risking thier lives daily. Then the "protesters" cry how brutal the police are when they get a whack.

Just like spoiled kids...

No they show up because they actually BELIEVE in something and have the cojones to DO something to achieve it. I guess nothing ever moved you to do much of anything, except criticize of course.

Why do people say socialism as if it's a bad word? I mean, as much as some American citizens detest socialism, don't they realize parts of our government are pretty socialist?!

The welfare program (a type of socialism) has to be revamped as their some citizens that are blatantly abusing it. There should be limit on how many years and the amount that a person gets for those years. The program should encourage the recipient to become independent and NOT dependent on the program. There is a lot of things wrong with the government and with people.

And by revamping the welfare program you mean the CORPORATE welfare program, which makes the people's welfare programs looks like jelly beans in comparison. This is why OWS exists, because everyone is focused on the wrong thing....their work is nowhere near done.

As soon as we get the CORPORATE recipient off welfare, then we can talk about the people. Socialism is alive and well and thriving in Corporate America...yet nobody talks about that. OWS does.

What are they achieving? I know many people participating in OWS and most seem to only complain about the poor cell phone service and lack of WiFi.

I agree, this will require ousting the Democrats and Obama. They are worse culprits of corporate welfare (or, as Ron Paul calls it, "corporatism") than the Republicans. If you can't see that, you're as much a partisan as the conservatives who oppose the movement because they're irrationally terrified of the phrases "socialism" and "the workers" due to their connotations with human rights abuses throughout history in countries like the USSR, China, Cuba, N. Korea, and France.

Me, I think OWS is supporting a generally legitimate cause but with massive shortsightedness and a total lack of intellectual foundations.

i say socialism as if it is a bad word because to me it is a bad word. socialism just creates poverty for everyone and brutal government. i realize that our government is too large and involved in too many things. thats why i want it slashed in size. elimination of the departments of energy, education, EPA and many others is what i want.

So how do you expect this country to tackle energy, education, poverty, environment etc. without these departments? What's the best alternative?

I totally realize parts of our government are socialist. As a libertarian, I detest those parts of our government.
