I think the main problem is that they don't like being called hipsters--but at the same time, their behavior makes them stand out like a sore thumb. So you can't help but identify them as something other than just New Yorkers.
With your posts in this hipster thread, you could of fooled me cause it sounded like you do care more about people's clothes. Also, not sure what you had to decipher, my statement was very clear.
Example? Come on smarty pants, throw in my face where I've commented on other people's clothing. Find the comments you are referring to and make me look stupid. Start with the one on page 9 where I say I have no problem with hipsters. That one will really make me look stupid!

I'll never understand people who can make random statements that they can't back up. Maybe you won't do so well here after all, even though you know more than us natives. NYC requires toughness; you're gonna get chewed alive.

Haha, hardly, I do just fine in New York. This city was made for me and I love it here. Again, i have yet to hear another New Yorker on the streets talk about your comments hand how important they are to everyone here, this is a city of over 8 million people afterall, I don't think most people would in nyc would care what another person's opinion would be, you know if you don't like what I have to say (and we are clearly not going to agree on anything) you are welcome to ignore them, that won't hurt my feelings.
btw, are Hispters only found on the creatives (atrs, literature, film, etc) circles, can you find a Hispter in a more rigid/boring field like accounting or computer science?

In my experience, I've found on all these fields.
My field is boring?
Computer Science, yes. I have yet to see one in accounting.
The big question is do you see them in any blue collar job? (Other than the famous hipster cop from OWS)
Actually, I've seen in accounting, and marketing (yet this is considered a creative type).
I've seen blue-collar hispters. I know of a guy who works as a waiter, and one who works in contruction.
