That's what I think. If someone performs well or if you just have some extra change, there is no problem with contributing.
Just don't make something bigger out of it than it is. You're not dividing loaves and fish here, for the hungry.

You have no real background to suggest this though. That's just an assumption. They are still hounding people for cash. If they just have a cup out, that's cool. If they are getting in peoples faces and asking people, that's totally different. Aggressive vs Passive.
I saw this stumbling old guy with a cane who couldn't even mumble out coherent sentences get snubbed by a bunch of millionaires on the upper east side the other day. I gave him a couple bucks.
I only gave to one guy and he used to be on the F train. Probably still is, but I lived there 4 years ago.
Remember him? His spiel:
"Hi, My name is Sonny Payne. I'm homeless and I'm hungry. If you could spare some change, I would appreciate it. If you can't, I understand because if you ain't got it, I ain't got it neither. Thank you."
I don't know why, but I always felt compelled to give him a buck.
There aren't any homeless where I live in Bergen County (NJ,) however, when I'm in NYC, I do see them time to time ... it always breaks my heart, I genuinely feel bad for them and their situation. With that, sometimes I give, sometimes I don't ... if I have change and/or singles, I'll give. Especially if they appear down on their luck, sad, and lost ... No one knows their story- maybe they lost it all in the blink of an eye ... Lord knows in this economy, it's not that difficult.
This is a true story: I knew a guy who owned a food truck. He would come to our company everyday at lunch for years and one day he stopped. He was a warm, friendly, nice guy. Long story short, I heard through someone else he was going through a divorce, his wife was being spiteful, and was trying to take everything- and reported him to the IRS for not paying taxes on his business. So, he hung himself. Horrible.
You know never why people are in the situations they're in ... it's not always their fault.

That's what sometimes happens when you have a business and don't report all your income. What a shame. How much do you think those carts REALLY make?
