Some of my family lived LeFrak City, Queens and they were white. Here in Toronto, it is very different. Housing projects here are dumping grounds for 3rd world refugees and everything else. A typical large housing project in Toronto is usually comprised of;
Carribean blacks, Nova Scotian Canadian blacks, Sri Lankans, Vietnamese or Philipino, El Salvadorians, Whites (Canadian generational whites) - Russians, Albanians, Iraqi, Bangledeshi, Pakistani.
That is the make up of almost every housing project in Toronto. Some areas are predominately blacks, others are perdominately Sri Lankan. In many areas, carribean street gangs have traditionaly had problems with Sri Lankans, leading to shootings and so forth.
The girl who played Kathleen Mead on the original Degrassi was from a housing project on upper Younge st. She was a typical blonde hair, blue eyed Canadian. Reading that did surprise me about the demographics of Canadian projects. I assume they are more in line with British projects.
The whole world should learn the success of Singapore's public housing. The best model for all residents.

THe, state and also the country needs to learn from Singapore, they have some of the best public social programs in the world. On pbs they compared singapores health care against Americas health care and it was better structred. Singapore public transit system runs circles around the MTA. America and NYC has a lot to learn.
Where I live there a there are 5 "housing projects"! Four out of the 5 are run by the same Management Company who do fingerprint screening and credit checks before your eligible to live there.
This city is a majority white population. We have very few African Americans, large Cambodian & Lia otion (sorry spelling) community!!!!
These projects are immaculately groomed and if there is any drug selling going on it is rapidly taken care of. Immediate eviction procedures take place. People are friendly, hard working class that are struggling in our economy, some are saving to buy that dream home.
Most project here are places where you wouldn't mind living, especially for the handicapped and elderly!!! Oh excuse they just developed a new elderly complex along side a Nursing Home and it is so beautiful!!!!! The apartments are equipped with updated appliance, AC, carpeting, full maintenance 24/7 security guards and it all goes by your income....
They have a gazebo with benches surrounding a pong with ducks and geese!! In the upcoming summer they plan on having outside concerts for the elderly and their families....it's a nice retirement community which is considered HUD because of the eligibility process.
Not all projects are poorly run, drug selling communities with prostitutes walking down the side streets!

im white and lived in Edenwald so i say that about sums up this thread lol. i did have a few issues where people tried to start **** but i became mutual with a few of the ''high ranked thugs'' and there were times they told people i was cool and to leave me the ''fu**'' alone. some storys though lol.
