People should know there's a difference between being disrespectful/lack respect and being immature. These "kids" (teenageers) are just disrespectful. KIDS are immature and KIDS do things where you can say "They don't know any better". But at this age in life, you're throwing trash in a memorial because you were bored is just flat out disrespect, no question. Stop making excuses for these kids because even though they are still minors, a couple of years will not make a difference. They will grow to be disrespect young adults, than the rest is written.
Was I an immature kid? Absolutely.I believe we all were. But there is a difference between immaturity and lacking respect.
I don't have a chip on my shoulder. Perhaps you should be a little more clear. Your first post was misleading. If you are now saying that public school is not the issue then why do you keep mentioning "PUBLIC SCHOOL"?? There are also parents who expect private schools to handle the discipline. My daughter went to private school for 2 years before going to public school. There was a 5 yr old boy that BIT HER TWICE and bit other children. He never got expelled and the parent came along with this BS excuse, "oh he's only 5 and he's a boy. They're kids." When my daughter was in daycare, there were some unruly children. You know what the parents said? "Well, they're here ALL day. You can discipline them too." Honest to God, I have heard parents say that to the director. The point I'm making is that it doesn't matter what type of school they go to.
OK, to be a little more clear as you asked, I keep saying public school because this thread is about public school kids.
Private schools have issues, and there is some overlap of them between private and public school, but in reality the challenges faced by public schools are largely not the same as those faced by private, especially in this city.
So we are to believe that at the age of 14, Studdedleather was immature but never disrespectful. RIGHT. More rewriting of history, or you simply have alzeimers.
I think the difference here Sobro, is that the vast majority of us never disrespected a mass gravesite where thousands of people perished in an instant. Even in our most immature, disrespectful, headstrong punk days. Give it a rest...
I can agree with that available. My problem is those who are claiming "I have never done that" ...like..so what? If you want to believe you were immature but never disrespectful, that's straight lieing and I will call you out on it all day long. These kids were dumb, disrespectful, rude, not thinking, self-absorbed, etc...I agree....but to believe you as a child, at whatever age, were never any of these things at some time or another is silly. Or that in the 30s,40s,50s,60s when you were raised it was only perfect children in a perfect world who would never dream of doing something is laughable..yet people keep regurgitating that nonsense.
You can look down on these kids, but the reality is, you did the same type of things, though not this exactly. These kids will learn, as most of us do, and grow up and move on...it was a mistake and they know it. I am not absolving them of anything, their parents should beat their asses and bring them to the memorial for a public apology (which I what I would do), and the chaperone should be reprimanded and apologize publicly at the memorial also.

The bolded is where you lost me. Like I said, the vast majority of us did not. Not in terms of disrespecting so many innocent lives.
FYI I was raised in the '80s. Born in '74 as my user name states.
Call me an old fart if you will, I don't care. The point most of us are making is while kids will be kids no matter what generation it is, there is always a difference between good kids who have parents who taught them well and bad kids who were taught nothing.
The fact that these kids didn't even see the need to apologize or think they did anything wrong proves they were not raised right. We're saying we were never that way as kids because we were raised right.
And while being disrespectful can sometimes belong in the eye of the beholder (one might say it is, one might say it isn't) I think we can all agree in this particular case, it's disrespectful no matter how you slice it.
You been lost for decades. Nonetheless, let's move on. I have said my peace, and as you recommended, I am giving it a rest.
Haha I'm not really sure how old you think I am, but good, I am glad you are giving it a rest...
