Why are you being so derogatory to people who tried to give you advice when you were the one coming to a public forum? No one has called you any names. There's no need for inflammatory language. Not to mention it's bad for you being 9 months pregnant. Take a breath and go through some of the old posts here.

At the risk of being flamed I will add that the ability to go to university is a privilege not a guaranteed right. I would recommend you postpone your area of study and look to go back to work after the baby is born. Get a few years in working, get on your own two feet, seek financial assistance from the father(s) of these children - and then - and only then will you be in a position to give up work and go study.

Exactly!
Life is about choices, you can't always choose to have it all. I choose a career that doesn't make me enough money to have children while living in nyc, therefore I'm not having children. If I wanted children I would have to choose a new career so I would bring in more income. So in my case it was choose career over children. In the OP case she wants the school to get the career and the children and is realizing you can't always have it all, especially all it once.

The govt isnt a magic cornucopia where money comes from thin air. Frankly I dont give a damn how many kids you have, just dont ask me to subsidize them. Me and my fiance would love to start a family but we both work full time and arent going to until we can afford it. You know, personal responseability and all that.

Perhaps you should apply for welfare. Full benefits in New York State for a family are around $43,000 - $45,000, which comes to $21 an hour or something, I believe.

You definitely should not move to Texas, the usual point-of-comparison to New York, where full benefits are around $13,000, or $6 an hour.

There was recently a major discussion about this issue, should welfare recipients be paid an amount consistent with minimum wage.

Moreover, keep in mind - welfare monies are not taxed.

This is why socialism and communism are always failed experiments. In theory its a great idea, but reality doesnt work that way. Not all people pull their fair share and they want to live off the work of others. Im sure Rolanda is a nice enough young woman, but this mentality to look to the state for everything has got to change or we are all going to drown from it.

For what it's worth, I do have a problem with the fact that she got pregnant while collecting benefits.

This bothers me. I thought she was like many millions of americans who fell on hard times by losing their jobs and was looking for help to get back on her feet. I have no problem with THIS scenario.

But I cannot and have NEVER condoned getting pregnant while STILL on the dole.

It's not fair to the CHILD. Why on earth would a woman do such a selfish thing in this day and age with so many multiple birth control methods??

I don't care if a man promises you the moon to have his kid, you do not get pregnant while on welfare. Now this child is going to be born into a poverty situation that it did not ask for. It's selfish and wrong. She should feel ashamed of herself.

I deleted most of my posts to her, because they were a waste of time and I was angered by her selfish decision for this baby. I do wish her well though. She and everyone else will realize that the cuts the government made last month weren't just to foodstamps.

It was in every MAJOR social services need. She'll see that and wish she had stayed in Texas or wherever she came from.

Seriously, Rolanda, I have read the thread. You are looking for DECENT ( not descent) housing and a good job. (If you are not going to stay with your family, you will also need childcare . ) You will not get this if you can only speak and write in "text". Example: this post

This is not a judgement, it is an observation. If you have your HS degree or GED, look up a night class in English and take it. Fast! If you don't have that degree, then get a GED. If you have the degree and cannot read, write and speak English ( as opposed to text abbreviations in later posts ), your prospects for the good job and the good housing you will be able to obtain with the pay from the good job are slim.

The child will be born into poverty and perhaps homelessness. If something happens to her living situation with grandma, then as you don't get into NYCHA right away (and you must be working to get an 80/20) its going to take years for her to get into NYCHA. So in the meantime its the shelter system.

The sequestration cuts to every social service need happened twice this year. First during sequestation, and then again on Nov. 1st. Oh, and the Senate passed a bill cutting an additional 4 billion from SNAP (the House's bill cuts 40 billion). Basically, come January there will be even MORE cuts.

I don't want to add to her distress, because she is 9 months pregnant, but it's still WRONG how she went about this. Are there "accidents"? Sure, but they have the Morning After Pill now and just about every pharmacy in NYC carries it. Does it always work? From what I've read, if taken quickly, it should prevent implantation, but other birth control methods could have been used before this. There are so many now - norplant, IUD (she already has a child), shots, the various birth control pills, etc.

Like I said, everyone WILL feel it in the coming months. The government tried to blindside everyone with making it about foodstamps, but I always knew it was more than that.

My God - I don't receive social benefits, but I had no idea the cuts were this severe. There is gonna be some shock for the people receiving benefits who are as poorly informed as I am on government cuts to the program. God help the seniors and the children.
