Yesterday evening I received a ticket for running a red light on 8th Avenue and 80th street in Manhattan. I was told (not by the cop) that I may receive points on my license. This is irrelevant to me, as I don't have a license nor do I plan to get one. I also do not live in NYC, although I'm here about 1 month out of the year. What are the consequences for not paying it?

I doubt they can issue points to your license given that there is no license required to cycle. That being said, you ARE required to follow the rules of the road and can be ticketed for running a red light!

Did you run the red light? If you did then just pay the ticket, try not to run a red light again and move on with your life.

40 lashes with a wet noodle and forced to listen to 80 hours of Barry Manilow music, non-stop. You'd be better of paying the ticket !

Bicyclist running a red light creates a dangerous situation. You screwed up. You got caught. Pay the ticket.

80 hours of Barry Manilow? Isn't there a law against cruel and unusual punishment?

That's a privilege that could be revoked.

That's what I'm thinking. I'd never heard of cyclists receiving tickets before. When I showed the cop my out of state license, he asked for a NYC address. When I told him I don't live here hour scoffed and wrote the ticket. I did notice that they didn't run my ID like they did to the local cyclists who they'd pulled over.

I dunno. Probably. I don't stop for red lights on my bike. If I was going to stop for red lights I'd get a car

;-)
