I remember the mid to late 80's when the city had to bomb the river edge of the Hudson because of the huge water rats those were those are ones that would attack you if you were not careful where you are stepping near the river! Now I only see them once in while!
Parkchester (my residence) does not have a rat problem!
Oh I don't know about that! Just a few weeks ago, was walking just outside of the Parkchester complex to the express bus and saw a *HUGE* rat smashed right near Leland Avenue. Was definitely not a mouse, but a *RAT*.
If the city really want to cut down on the rat population, the way garbage is handled would have to radically change. Leaving garbage on the street for hours waiting for pickup, in thin plastic bags is like putting out a buffet for the rats.
Are these American rats or Illegal rats? What is their legal status here?
While the common New York City rat is of the species Rattus Norvegicus (Norwegian Rat), and in fact originates in Asia, they were here before the founding of the nation and are therefore citizens by right. The less common roof rat (rattus rattus) is generally an illegal alien, and is treated harshly by the native rats.
