I was on Google street view and came across some neighborhood names that I have never seen before.

Fordham Heights is used for the area from Jerome to Webster from Burnside to Fordham rd. This is what we usually call Fordham.

Fordham Manor is describing Fordham-Bedford aka North Fordham.

West Bronx is used west of Webster.

Foxhurst shows up for what is East Morrisania.

Woodstock is the name used for the area around 152nd & Prospect...aka Melrose.

North New York is used for north east Mott Haven.

Here it is:

google street views - Google Maps

I LOL.....although I like Fordham Heights. What do you guys think of these names? Gentrification ploy?

You are probably right,Supermario. These are the same Bronx neighborhood descriptions used on Trulia ,which is a real estate site run by brokers. It's the only other place I have seen some of these names.

Yeah well you know what I discovered? I actually live in Woodstock! I have never heard of the name of my neighborhood as we always lumped together with Mott Haven, however I actually live in Woodstock (hence the name of the closet library brand Woodstock). You learn something new everyday...it makes sense because we are just North of Mott Haven, just East of Melrose, Just West of Hunts Point/Longwood, and just south of Morrisania = Woodstock!! I am now WoodstockDude! If you want to learn about the origin of the neighborhood (over 150 years old), the name, and the boundaries, click the links below..it's interesting. McNamara's Old Bronx - Google Book Search Woodstock in Bronx, New York, Woodstock Neighborhood Guide and Business Directory.

Yeah its cauldwell also....I knew the branch of the library was Woodstock, but never heard anyone refer to the area in any way except Mott Haven. I like the name Woodstock..sounds cool....guess I gotta do all the educating and get the name back on the map! North New York is pretty cool but I think Mott Haven is best.

I like the Woodstock (Eastern Melrose) and Foxhurst (north of Longwood) names. They have a historic character. As for Foxhurst, it is appropriate since Fox Street runs through most of it. However, most are going to use Southern Blvd as their neighborhood name.

Does anyone know anything about so-called Fordham Heights ?

Grand Concourse - someone was asking. I have no idea.

Not interested in exhaustive "stats" - anyone actually know ? Recently. This is an old thread.

The western and southern Bronx is really tough when it comes to neighborhood definition - I have family that used to live near Fordham Road on the D train and I have never heard them say Fordham Heights, if you ask them what part of the Bronx they are from they just say Fordham

The broker told them the name, I had the thought that it sounded made-up.

It is near the D train Fordham stop, away from Fordham University rather than toward was my sense.

These are very young professionals, they found an apartment they can afford.
