Sounds like you have a bible thumping cult member on your hands. Guy sounds like he's on automatic pilot and not all there, IMO.

Also, it sounds like he somehow knew you were in financial trouble. I'd check your entire place for listening devices. Exactly why did your bf lose his job? Could there have some meddling by your neighbor behind the scenes?

Sounds like a joke but that's a good idea.
You never know.

People are weird.

If your gut is telling you to be careful I'd never ignore that. On the other hand I've had felt "led" to do random acts of kindness before, which I credit to God. I've no idea how they turned out and I'm sure more than one person thought I was a total weirdo. Then again while I'm open about my faith I'm not pushy. It could be he's just trying to be helpful, but God gave you instincts for a reason.

Without knowing your neighbor, it would be wrong for me to cast any type of judgment, whether it be positive or negative. Having said that, there is another type of "organized group" that typically employs similar tactics to "encourage" membership...

"Some day, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me. But uh, until that day, accept this justice as a gift..."

Tell your neighbor God told you to give back the money and that keeping secrets from your mate is unholy.

This is a hilarious comment. Just saying, .

Well, at least my situation isn't as bad as my mom's. She says there is this "monk" who comes into her dog grooming shop and is constantly trying to make her come to their convent. Not your typical monk that lives in the mountains and lives in silence, this is a regular guy. The Zepher did an article about that convent saying there was suspicious cult activity. Now that's creepy! Let me see if I can find the article. . .

When someone gives you a gift, accept it and say thank you!

People who do nice things like this do not expect anything in return. You don't have to do a thing.

As for why he did this, around my area I don't need a newspaper. The kids know instantly what is going on anywhere. Perhaps the "kid grapevine" alerted him to the fact you needed money?
