It feels sadistic in some ways. Could've just announced a headquarters and gotten it over with very low-key, but they want to stir the termite nest and see them all wiggle around. See how far states and cities are willing to emasculate themselves.

Yep. And at the end of the day, 237 cities/jurisdictions will be asking, "What did we do/are we doing wrong? Are we really that bad and can't see it?" I mean cities and states ask themselves that at the losing end of any corporate deal but this process is on an entirely different level. And God forbid if they pick Toronto and **** off the entire U.S.

Charlotte gets companies moving their head quarters here and most people in Charlotte do not know about it. Chiuduno, Italy-based KASK has its American head quarters in Charlotte
since 2010. I did not know that until there was an the Charlotte Business Journal this week about them get a new location in Charlotte.

For Amazon to do what they have done, it will now leave 19 cities out and one city that won. All of the USA will know who the 19 cities who lost out. All the other cities that did not make the 20, will go on and do business as usually.

Just because a city is not selected by Amazon does not mean it is something wrong with that city. I think it could been handle a better way.

True, but cities will think that--especially when they see cities they don't consider to be competitors in any real sense make the list and they didn't.

How Charlotte may have dodged a bullet with Amazon HQ2

A sigh of relief: That’s what some around Charlotte breathed last week, when Amazon announced the city didn’t make its shortlist for the massive second headquarters known as HQ2.
While local officials and economic developers have salivated over the 50,000 high-paying jobs and $5 billion worth of investment Amazon has said will bring to the chosen city, others worried about an Amazon-fueled boom driving up housing costs, increasing traffic, straining infrastructure and demanding expensive tax incentives.

“I’d call it a dodged bullet, frankly,” said Ray McKinnon, pastor at South Tryon Community United Methodist Church and a member of the Charlotte Housing Authority’s board of commissioners. “Charlotte hasn’t figured out already how we handle this crisis of housing. To add the headquarters of Amazon to the mix would, I think, just be too much, too soon.”

To be sure, forecasters don’t think the Charlotte region will stop growing, and short of a major economic crisis, housing prices aren’t likely to come down anytime soon. The region’s economy is growing and the number of houses and apartments remains extremely low. And Amazon isn’t the sole driver of breakneck growth in Seattle, which is also home to companies such as Microsoft, Starbucks and Costco.

Well that's what they get for hubris. If nothing else I applaud Amazon for keeping Montgomery County on the list to troll everyone.

How is that trolling people? I'd say that's the case for some others before Montgomery County (which is where I happen to live and work); if anything, MoCo's inclusion is a sign of the strength of the DC region.
