It's saying that whatever tier you're on, if it lasts past that Dec 31st week, it's the last one you'll qualify for. Why it's unevenly divided into tiers instead of just one (up to) 53 week program I have no idea.
I wasnt aware that this was going on in NC. I have been receiving benefits from NJ while living in NC for almost 2 years. I still have or thought I had around 4900.00 left on my EB claim. I am working part time and when I went online this morning to claim my continuing benefits I was told that my state no longer was in "trigger mode". What are the chances that the trigger will be reactivated? This really screws things up for me--I was hoping that I could return to full time in the next few months. The benefits would have lasted me for roughly 10-12 more weeks. I know a lot of you arent working at all so my situation is not as drastic as some but still--this sucks!!
cwgolfman, we are all hoping and praying that this gets resolved withing the coming week. If you look a little further back at a few earlier posts, one placed by member "laidoffafter50," there is a recent article which says the legislature is working on a bill to address and correct the issue. We are doing our best here to be proactive and support a bill to correct this issue. I encourage you to visit the page of the North Carolina General Assembly, North Carolina General Assembly - Home Page
and to write each senator and representative, expressing your support for EB benefits. By each of us showing our interest on the issue, we will get results.

If you're collecting from NJ, ask about it on the NJ board. Given the governor's stances on things there, I can only say good luck.
I think my tier 2 ran out two weeks ago but I never received a letter of determination for tier 3 from NC where I live but I have continued to certify online and today for the 4th consecutive week it says 'you have two weeks or less remaining' and yes I did get paid last week when it said the same thing for the 3rd straight week???? can anybody offer any clarification on this??

Hey, not to be rude.
The number for the Unemployment commission is 828-251-6200(local office)
They are open Mon-Friday 8-5. They always answer the phone, and will answer you specific unemployment question. Each person's case is different. People are pretty worried about extended benefits, and the legislature surrounding them. They are worried for the state of our economy, and the poor political unity in our state...NOT really thinking about what messages are popping up when you go to file your weekly certification. Sorry to sound crass, i'm just saying...make a phone call.

This would be a MUCH shorter thread if everyone just called. Go back a couple hundred pages and you'll see one of the reasons this thread is so valuable is that people are sharing what's happened to them AND some people report getting different answers depending on who they talked to.
So, not to be rude but if the question is related extended unemployment, there's no such thing as a wrong or bad question.

I am not giving anyone a motivational speech or anything. In fact, I was trying to be helpful. Personal EUC08 Tier related questions are better answered by the professionals behind the ESC desks. Although people are "sharing their experiences" in this forum. This isn't a place to lazily throw out questions that you can obtain by yourself(especially if you are unemployed, their is more time in your day to educate yourself). Also, the information about the length of tiers is listed on the ESC website, some simple math could ensure a quick answer to any tier related question.
Their are quite a few people NOT on tier two of our unemployment, in fear of not being able to pay next months rent because of EB being unjustly and suddenly extinguished. We are hoping for some action on the bills regarding this matter.
I encourage everyone to contact their local senators to rectify this situation.
Sorry to devalue any previous tier question. Your right, those are valid concerns as well.

I am in exactly the same situation you are but the money keeps coming so I'm not worrying about it yet. I suppose when I get a message saying I'm not getting the money I'll give them a call.
