Agreed. I think in general, people use the airport that most meets their needs for a given flight. I hate making the trek to BWI from NoVA -- and don't really like flying in/out of there either -- but sometimes they have the best option and it's worth it to endure the hassle.

I'm near Rockville station. I'd assume the closer driving distance you are to IAD, the cheaper it is. IDK if this is still the case.

Yep. All int'l flights I've taken were at IAD because they were only offered at IAD. Less layovers (in my case) for me as well.

I recommend the SuperShuttle, I have used them in several cities and they are always great.

If you use the shared ride van service it's a lot cheaper than getting a cab and the service is fantastic. First of all it's always on time AND they call you a few minutes before the shuttle arrives to let you know it's on the way. They pick you up or drop you off at your door. And maybe I'm lucky, but often I'm actually the only person in the shuttle. So it ends up being like a much cheaper cab.

I wouldn't say they were ALWAYS on time. In fact, I had reservations to take them from McLean to DCA; got a call from them 5 minutes before my scheduled pickup time to tell me they were not coming....at all. Just like that, too bad. AND, I had to call THEM to request my refund since I had prepaid the reservation; it wasn't automatically going to be refunded. The bums.

Still curse at them when I see their vans around!
