Am I kidding when I say people should live where they're the happiest? No. If living in Hawaii would make someone the happiest sure they should live there. There are jobs. If someone chooses to live in Northern Virginia because they can find a better job, but it causes them to live an unhappy existence, then that's not a wise decision IMO. Anyways nobody was talking about Hawaii. This thread is about VA & CA. It certainly is very doable to move between those two places. In fact the poster I directed my post at that you quoted is moving to CA, so good for him.

Well I've lived in CA and VA and you can be equally happy (or unhappy for that matter) in either place. Both have their pros and cons. Both have aspects that made me want to drive up a wall when I lived there. Neither is anywhere near perfect.
